Water pump gasket??

Twams

i am replacing the water pump on a 99 4runner v6. The new water pump comes with a paper gasket. The old did not appear to us a paper one. The water pumps look identical with a blood grove for form a gasket. Do i use the paper gasket too??

I would love to get some advice.

Thank
Tom

I know that the 3.4 L had some issues with the silicone between the water pump and engine. Tehy modified it by adding a metal/rubber gasket in the boxes. In my opinion, you should put silicone on both side of your paper gasket and put it in place. This is an after market gasket right?

:iagree: Goop up both sides and you should be fine. Actually, wait that's what I did and got goop everywhere. . . put some on one side of the gasket and some in the groove on the pump. Then the goopy side of the gasket goes against the engine. Then you will have both sides covered with less mess to clean up

Thanks for the input. Autozone told me to use the gasket and goop it on the water pump side only. I did what they told me.....then i gooped it on the engine side too because i did not want to open up that can again.
