water pump leaking

Oh No! I took my truck in for it's 75000 mile service (actual mileage is 82000) and they told me my water pump is just starting to leak. The estimate is $700 which in no way do I want to pay. I think the estimate included the timing belt and something else too. I declined the service. No what? Is there somewhere that will do it for cheaper? this is crazy. I guess I can't do it myself huh? I know nothing about cars.. What does this mean my truck is going to overheat?

water pump

I will do the timing belt service on my 01' rig once it reaches 90,000 miles (I am only at 78k right now). The service includes changing the water pump and drive belts. Quoted by local shop that I use close to $800.00. If you plan on keeping this truck, you are going to have to fork over $700.00. It is recommended by Toyota to change your timing belt at 90k anyways. Keep us posted. Trust me, you don't want that timing belt to brake or your engine to overheat with that leaky water pump. You will have to spend thousands then for that repair.

Doing some preventative maintanence now will save you lots of cash later.

I thought these are non-interfearing engines meaning that if the belt breaks you will not bend valves etc. ?

Also replacing the belt tensioner is a good idea along with the belt and pump.

just pay it

Changing the water pump is a factory serivce item that needs to be replaced. My 97 runner has over 200k with no leaks but my t-belt is over due by 20k. It will be replaced in the very near future along with the h20 pump. if you don't you will definetly pay later when your heads warp out due to overheating. Find an independent shop to do it for you w/ toyota h20 pump. And since your in there you might as well do your T belt all at once. Your going to have to do it anyways at 90k Or be like me and go over 20k over the recommended service. And yes it is a non interfernce motor. Thats Why it doesn;t matter to me if it goes out. Plus I do my own t belt and other maintenance. Pay now or pay big later.

it's best if you fix it now than later. you never know if you wait, it might get worst and your whole car might broke down. good luck!

Shouldnt it still be under warranty? I have a 99' and the water pump went out last summer and it was still under warranty. You might want to check that out.
