Went to Portsmouth Island, NC last weekend and ventured out to water road which leads to Portsmouth Village, here's another dudes video of this trail (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aEsHwVzd_JY) we've had a lot of rain so it was DEEPer than this video...I walked out about 100 yards and it was knee deep so I decided to go for it (stock except 275 KO2's), after that 100 yards she dropped into a hole over the door sills by about 5 inches for about 50' in the in deepest section and came back up to an area knee deep. At this point I was in about 200 yards, about half way but I could tell the 2nd half of the trail was going to be worse.
You have to take a private ferry out to this island, there are no roads, and this trail is about 12 miles down the beach north...no way I wanted to sink my 4runner and wait a day or to get freed with some insane tow/recovery bill or worse hydro lock my motor if it got any worse.
I made it back out, no problem - check all my fluids and things seem fine. I checked the rear diff tonight, expecting some milky fluid, the fluid was clear. Did I make out ok? Should I still drain and re-fill the rear diff? Anything else I should check on?
I'll post a pic from my phone for good measure on the next post - but I didn't get water road, I was pre-occupied thinking about the truck...just a sunset from earlier that day
Oh and by the way, when I went in reverse to pull a 3 point turn and head back out, the front silver valance ripped off my bumper, water force must have caught it and it floated away, every clip tore away from the bumper and I'm left with a tabless valance, I think i'll plastic weld them back on, but why are they so easily broke? I've not seen this on other threads - should I fix what I have, or should I go all out and pick up the black TRD version?
