Correct me if I'm wrong ripcord for saying this but doesn't the ultragauge do exactly the same thing as a scangauge with the exception being it doesn't read tranny temps? Since he has a 96 his scangauge can't read it either.

You might be better served with an ultraguage since it's cheaper but wait on ripcords response because I've never owned a scangauge.

All 96 and newer are obd 2 scan gauge is for obd 2 why would my mine being a 96 change anything?

This is true. Forgot about those.

Only 99 and up can read trans temp. And only scangauge can read trans temp. Ultragauge is 1/2 cost if SG.

hmm thats pretty lame haha kinda like the 96 limited i have has all the fancy bells and whistles but no stock blower or climate control:redbrick:

that does suck but like the thread is labeled I am looking for water/coolant temp other than the stock one, not to read trans temp

Right, I was just stating the difference of what you're getting when you buy one of these.

Ultragauge is cheaper (atleast it used to be) so I was just trying to save you some money.

Ok so your saying both the ultra gauge and the scan gauge WILL read the coolant temp but neither of the two will read the trans temp on a 96-98 correct? ones just cheaper than the other

That's correct. I use an Ultragauge in my '97 4Runner, and a Scangauge II in another vehicle.

I actually like the Ultragauge better. When I bought mine, it was less than half the cost of the Scangauge II.

thanks guys for the help just wanted to make sure that was the deal before i ordered one, but that does suck about the trans temp, I had pink milkshake bad a while back although its fine now I wish the scan gauge could read the temp of it
