wear points?

So... have you run across any "wear points" that you wish you knew about, and maybe would have done something about had you known?

What I mean is this...

I noticed while cleaning out the car today after our trip that the carpet in our 8-month-old 4runner is wearing out a little bit by the driver's side right foot, up high by the dash. Not a big deal, but I'm going to study the situation, and see if I can fashion something to protect the flooring.

Are there others that I should watch for? Door handles? Rear seats rubbing against the backs of the front seat when folded flat? Hinges? Buttons?

Thanks!

Got a dent on top of the driver's side door panel where I rest my elbow. Plastic trim panels in the cargo area scratch pretty easy. That's all I can think of.

The only thing I see is the super easy to scratch instrument cluster lens.

Yup, wish I knew that about a month ago. I will be buying a new lens as it almost looks like there is a fog or haze over my tachometer from cleaning it. I might try to weasel it under warranty repair but doubt that will fly. I just think it is BS that you can't clean the lens with glass cleaner and a soft, cotton rag without it scratching.

Like loner mentioned, the rear cargo area scratches real easily. I've just accepted that it is going to look like sh!t and just live with it. I have the WeatherTech rear floor liner back there, but I can't think of anything practical to protect the rest of the rear cargo area.

I have a feeling that my driver seat on the left side will start to see premature wear from turning while I get in and out of the car. Don't know how I could really avoid it. But again, I will probably just chalk that up to normal wear and tear. Most driver seats start showing wear long before the passenger seats do on most vehicles anyway.
