Wearever brand brake parts for TBU from Advanced Auto Parts

I'd like to do the upgrade but want to make sure I am getting the right parts. I'd appreciate any feedback on what you all think of these parts below. Advanced Auto Parts has a coupon code that is only good for 1 more day, so I appreciate the quick feedback.

the code (WD514) is good for $50 off $125 purchase if anyone else wants to use it.

These are the parts I found by searching for 2005 Tundra V8:

Left Caliper

Right Caliper

Rotors

Pads


So if I split the order into 1 caliper and 1 rotor I'm basically paying $75 for the caliper (after return of core) and getting the rotor for free.

So my question is will these be a good combo? I just don't want to order the wrong parts or brands more importantly.

I'm pretty sure the calipers don't matter as per brand (and I am going to paint them black so I am not worried about the finish).

But what about the rotors and the pads?

Do I really need to go OEM on the rotors and pads for the extra money? I can get the OEM stuff for:

43512-0c011 rotors for $60 each (compared to AAP discount price of basically free)

04465-35290 pads $65

04945-35120 shim kit $40

The Wearever pads are about half the price of the OEM pads and shim kit.

Plus if I order my B&M 70268 transmission cooler with the pads, I'm basically paying $75 for the cooler and the pads are free!

So what do you all think?

For rotors I usually go for the auto store's parts. These are simple parts. For pads I usually go for OEM. Akebono is good. I have Wearever Platinums on a Volvo. They work great for daily driving.

I did the Tundra front brake upgrade on my rig and I bought the calipers from Advance Auto Parts. I have had them for four years and they have held up fine. I bought the new rotors (Wagner Brand) at O'Reilly as I tried the AutoZone Rotors and they did not last long. (I did have them turned and I have them as a spare so whenever I need the Wagner rotors turned, I can put in the AutoZone rotors and not be without a vehicle) I went ahead and bought the TOYOTA pads from the dealer. They are worth every penny! I have not had much luck with aftermarket pads. They wear faster and put out a ton of dust (in my opinion)

I saw that sale in the flyer the other day, looks like a good deal. I haven't done the TBU yet but I would try it out. If the pads dont last go with OEM next time. The original pads on my truck lasted 133,000 miles! Sounds like they might be worth the extra money!:yo:

Thanks guys for your experiences. I think I will go with the Wearever calipers and rotors. The pads I might try the Hawk Performance and see how they do. (or the wearever platinum ceramic, haven't decided yet)

I just wanted to make sure my thinking was on track and it seems like people concur that the calipers are all basically the same. So with this coupon deal I am basically getting to try out the Wearever rotors for free.

Worst case is they don't hold up, and I step up to better ones down the road.

Hey Unner! Good to see you are in Alabama! To answer your questions, I have about 61K on the calipers I bought from Advance. They did not have any powder coat or paint on them. They get hot and dirty with wear so that new color look wears down quite quickly in my opinion.

Alright, thanks for the answer. Right now I'm thinking I'll go with the advanced calipers because I can get them for pretty cheap with their online coupons and paint them to keep them looking nice. Thanks for the mileage too. That's the first update I've seen with more than just a few thousand miles. Good to know there's no disadvantages to going with these brakes on our trucks long term.

I'll be painting mine with Black Dupli-Color caliper paint. I'll try to post some pictures when I am done with them.

I would have no problems doing the TBU with the AA parts listed. I just swapped the pads on my 4runner with the Wearever platinum pads and I like them. I am pretty sure they are made by Raybestos.
