Weather stripping on driver door

I saw a thread from last year where someone suggested 3M adhesive for the rubber stripping on the door. My 2000 4R has a similar problem, but the stripping has pulled away right at the top rear corner of the driver's door (at the bend of the seal). This causes a lot of wind noise as well as some water to come through. They wanted $180 to replace the seal at the local shop, saying that it has "learned" to keep that shape and glue would only be a temp solution. Is there a less expensive alternative? i.e. Is there anyone who has had great luck with the 3M weatherstipping adhesive? Thanks.
