When purchasing my used 03 it turns out that front mats were not included. I checked a few prices, inlcuding toyotas all weather mats, and decided I wanted a quality mat up front. We get all kinds of weather, and I think a good mat (in front at least) is a decent investment.
I ordered the "floorliner" front mat set from weathertech. In the past I had outfitted a '95 maxima with weathertech "classic" mats. Those are 'near-fit' mats made of high quality rubber. They really work well.
I decided to 'move up' to the floor liner for a couple reasons. The floorliner is an exact fit, much like a cargo liner. It also had two spots for the driver side hooks to attach to. Finally, the new mats promise to 'direct water/slush out side the vehicle by their design'.
As you can see the fit is excellent. I am extremely pleased with how they look and fit. I am happy to have the drv side anchors, but this has the potential of allowing slush/water to drain. The anchor points were initially hard to use. I am not sure the people at the carwash would have an easy time with them.
I am not sure of the claim regarding 'self-emptying'. From my observation the liquid would have a tough time geting over the door sill. I have not tested this yet. Another concern is that there doesn't appear to be a 'reservoir'. The 'classic' mats have deep groves which held a fair bit of liquid, helping to prevent your pants from mopping it up. I will cross my fingers and hope the new mats channel liquid away from my pants, but we shall see.
The final complaints is that the new mats are not rubberized. Think of them more as semi-hard plastic. That means that when I am exiting the vehicle, they don't offer much 'resistance' to my foor; aka very little grip.
Keep in mind this is an initial reaction. There is a 30 day return policy, but I doubt I will use it. The real test will come with the slush/ice of early next winter.
