WeatherTech LampGuard/Deflector Installed (PHOTOS...LOOK!)

Okay all -

I just installed my WeatherTech LampGuards and it was a 6/10 difficulty installing them.

Here are a few pointers about installation that I learned.

1. Follow the instructions and use the alcohol/water mixture on your hands and the adheasive part.

2. Definitely use a hairdryer. You may want to warm the lenses up before you remove the tape backing on the adhesive side. It makes it more manageable.

3. Test fit all pieces. The kit comes w/6 pieces; both headlights, each fog and each blinker on the front of the car.

4. Take your time...if it sticks and you have a bubble that won't come out...just spray away (Hands and Adheasive part of film) and pull it back and get that bubble out of there.

Pardon the stupidity, but what are the lampguards supposed to do for you?

Their supposed to protect the lenses from any kind of debris hits and prevent cracking, chipping, and scratching.

I just went to X-pel's website....that's what WeatherTech sells and I guess they just put their name on it.

Anyhoo...they have a 4yr warranty and $1,000 lamp breakage guarantee....cool!!

The lamps on our are very clear and expensive looking....I had a 2001 Mits Eclipse Spyder for 3yrs and these nice looking headlights will get a thousand tiny chips in them over the years...so I just want to protect them and keep them nice looking since I'm going to own my 4runner for many years to come...that's all and they are cheap!

Thanks -- interesting that X-pel is $25 more expensive than WeatherTech. Of course, you don't get the 4-year warranty.

Thanks a lot for the info. I was about to buy this and try to install myself. How long does it take you to install your headlight? Do you need to wash all the light prior to your installation? If so, do you use plain water, soap and let it dry. How was the weather when you install your area warm or cold? In NJ it's about 40~50 depends on the day.

It took about 15-20min for each headlight...the fogs went a bit quicker...but you must take your time and make sure it fits onto the headlight/fogs.

I made a mixture of 1 part Alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) to 4parts water in a spray bottle. This is straight from the install instructions that come with the lenses.

I dried them with a lint free towel and I would say it was around 60F degree's.

It was a really easy install...just have patience and don't freak out when the lense doesn't look like its going to work out....it will...just keep it soft with the heat from the hairdryer and wet the lenses so you don't get your fingerprints embedded into the adhesive. =)

Good Luck....I'll take some more pictures when the fog has disipated between the lense and headlight and post them.

Thanks for your information.

Finally, I will have to let an installer do it for me (the deluxe kit + optinal kit + headlight kit ~$600 + $50~$75/hour labor). The reason is I couldn't find a rental place (garage, shed etc) so I can install in a warm environment. Well, at least I sincerely hope that they are going to do a much better job than I am.

How close to you have to get to tell they are on. Or do you really notice them

Just look at 02sport's pictures there and its about the same on the '03's....I think you could safely say that you would need to be looking hard to notice that they are on the headlights/foglights/blinkers.

They are very crystal clear looking!
