Weekend Project - Clear Tails

I researched the new 4Runner L.E.D. tail lenses and they were like from $160.00- $185.00, I liked the tail lenses but I did not want to have to deal w/ individual L.E.D.

Man those look clean as hell, I take back what I said about getting the LED tails. Those definitely look good with all the other clear/silver you've got on your Runner! I use to have clear tails on my 4Runner to, but I sold mine.
 
yea i have never been a big fan of the all clear taillaights, but brian is right it does look very good on your truck. nice work
 
I went to radio Shack and bought some 10 Ohm 10 Watt resistors and soldered them and heat shrinked over them on my rear turn signals it remedied the alarm lok up problem on the hazards and the turn signal it still blinks fast but it look real cool with the L.E./D blinking fast

Instead of wiring in resistors here and there, you could just install a new Electronic Flasher made to operate LEDs correctly. It replaces your stock EF and will allow LED turn signals to flash just like regular halogen bulbs. It will even operate properly if both halogen and LED bulbs are installed (not just LEDs).

I'm planning on installing oval DOT LED turn signals in my front TJM bumper. I went ahead and purchased the new EF, installed it and test wired my LED turn signals up. They work like they are supposed too now with the new EF :D.

I got my aftermarket LED EF here. I want to say it was $15 shipped (towards the bottom of the page):

If you do decide to order one, be sure to remove your original EF first and compare it to this chart so you order the correct EF: http://www.superbrightleds.com/flashers.htm

I originally ordered the one labeled "Japanese". However, when I got it in the mail, I compared the pins on it to the pins on my oem EF and they were backwards? So I went back to the site, matched my EF with the Flasher labeled "German/European" Part # CF13GL-02. (odd I know). So I returned the Jap EF and ordered the Ger/Euro EF in its place. Got it in a few days later, installed it and it operates my LED & halogen bulbs perfectly. :)

One thing to point out. Your oem EF is also the device that creates that "tick, tick" sound when you activate your turn signals. As soon as you turn off your turn signal, the sound stops. However, these aftermarket EFs are not as precise as our oem ones. My LED EF sounds off an extra "tick" after I turn my turn signals off. Not a big deal to me, just something worth point out.

You know where that fuse panel is in the dash below and to the left of the steering wheel? The oem EF sits on top of that.

Meaning you have to first remove the driverside kick panel. Next, unbolt the lower half of the dash around the steering wheel. Third, unbolt the 2 bolts holding the fuse panel in place. Now, rotate the panel downwards enough to access the EF. It simply plugs into the fuse panel here. It should even say "Flasher" on it. (It's a pain in the arse to access.)

Just unplug the oem EF and plug in the new one. Reinstall everything and you're done.

It looks very similar to the one I posted in the link a few posts up. It's just a tad taller than the oem one.

your 4runner does have a very clean look to it. not to flashy which is what i like.

yeah good idea I actually have some of the same material laying around I used to make red/clear tail lenses for Maxima's back in the day, I also thought about just putting a silver decal over the entire third brake light so it's like "shaved"

I'll sell you my audio equipment...don't have tv's or ps2 but I got an xbox and nav/dvd player.
