Weekend snowstorm plans

Anyone else expecting some crazy snow starting tonight and continuing through tomorrow night? We're supposed to get over a foot in the Washington DC suburbs. Just filled up on washer fluid, gas, threw a new tow strap in the trunk, got a new fire extinguisher in the back and threw my all weather mats in. We haven't gotten a foot in at least five years so this could be a big one that'll F up the entire area, since no one knows how to handle more than a half inch of snow around here. I can't wait to drive around aimlessly and make some money with that new tow strap:thumb3:

What's everyone else's plan?

Ahhhh snap, get your snow booties ready. Winter storm coming this way with potential of 6 inches here. AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!1 stock up on food for a month and flood the costco gas stations!

Raleigh people suck when it comes to snow. Everyone flips out and forgets how to drive period. You'd think with all the northerners down here, they'd be used to it. but no. the snow should start here later today and continue into tomorrow night. Which of course means it will be raining today and tomorrow with a low temp of 33 degrees. And of course DOT has been salting roads since Tuesday so surely no rain would ever freeze onto anything.

All i want is a little snow to try out my new tires, maybe tow a few stranded motorist who have lost their way in an inch of snow. Is that too much to ask weather god???!
 
You will LOVE the TG's in the snow. A couple weeks back when we had 5" I got to try them out for the first time in the white stuff and I was pretty impressed. I could saw the wheel back and forth going down a snow covered road and stayed on track the whole time. I could only feel the slightest bit of slippage. This is probably going to get me in trouble:spider:
 
Only 2-4 inches forecast for Pittsburgh. Boring. Might just take a pic to send to the parents down under where they are complaining about the cold summer so far because its only got up to 75°F...
 
Hi, I'm new here but will get my 2010 next week. Can you tell me what kind/size/details of what to get in a tow strap? I honestly want to be a good samaritan all season, and would love to have this. Does it hook up to a ball on the hitch, etc?

Having left NoVa in '02 after 15 years you are in for some fun.

I used to love driving around Arlington and Loudoun County when 6+ of snow fell. Everyone got scared and stayed home for 4 days. LOL. Bunch of crying babies!

P.S. We get >100 inches a season up here and the roads are plowed constantly. Not much fun.
 
How much snow can the 4th gen 4runner handle

Guys I live here in Waldorf Maryland, we are suppose to get 24-28 Inches of snow down here. I dont like driving in the snow, but I am going to have to later today. In your experiences with your 4runners what is the most the 4Runner can handle? I have a 2005 SR5 V8 AWD do you think that will get me out of any sticky situations?

I think what's important is how good are your tires. A buddy of mine and I went snowboarding last season. He needed to replace his tires soon, while mine were pretty much like new. He has a '07--essentially we have the same 4Runner. It was a walk in the park for me to get out of the sloped driveway that was unplowed with about 12" of snow. He was spinning his wheels and had his center diff locked. He needed a running start and some good effort to get out of the driveway.

Also, are you in unplowed back roads or the highway that gets plowed regularly? Though I'm pretty sure, the conditions out in the Northeast will be much worse than what we get here in CA.

Its been snowing since 9pm and I'd say there's maybe 5 or 6 inches so far, and it's 430am. I have been out driving for hours in it. 2 feet is expected by tomorrow afternoon, with the heaviest snow around noon tomorrow
 
The Jeep is more representative of how much snow we've gotten so far. I cleaned my car off last night. Gonna have to clean it again :sniper:

Here in Eastern Pennsylvania the snow continues to fall. Current forecasts say snow accumulations will be in the 8-14 inch range.
I was out doing errands earlier this morning in my 4Runner and it was obvious that a lot of people were simply driving TOO FAST for the road conditions.
Some are sure to find out the hard way after they have an accident.

As usual, my 4Runner equipped with Blizzaks performed very well.
I have to go out later this afternoon which will be fun since there will be even more snow on the round. :thumb3:

Depending on where some of you live don't forget to clean the snow off of your 4Runner including the roof.
Here in Pennsylvania they enacted a law a couple of years ago regarding snow removal from vehicles.
If I am not mistaken, the fine is not cheap if one is caught. :wow:
 
Nice Day for a Drive

Hello,

8-14 inches forecast here in Middletown, Delaware. I was out at 0700 Hrs and it was a joy to drive the Runner. The Michelin LTX M/S 2 tires did a fine job. Too many stupid people on the road that shouldn't be out. :ybrick:

Here in Waldorf MD we got 14 Inches of snow so far. My neighbor had a two wheel drive van he was trying to get out of his drive way, he did get out the drive way and when he hit the street the van got stuck. I went out to help him with my 4Runner, but he nor I had any chains nor towing rope. I went for a spin in the snow, and the road are not clean, there seems to be a lot of car stuck in the snow also, but no one was in them when I drove by. I have been through a lot of snow storms, but I have to say that this one caught everyone in my local area by suprise. The 4runner did perform very well though, I even tried to get it stuck, but the 4Runner just ran over that big pile of snow.
 
16" here in McLean. Roads are awful. I'll post up some videos from my phone (unfortunately) later on. It is real rough out there.

One thing that's pissing me off is people using the plowed street as the sidewalk. There's more people than cars out on the road and that is incredibly dangerous. I almost hit three people today because they were walking in the center of the road. Dumbasses.
 
I was ferrying folks to the hospital...people walking in the road everywhere! It's bad out there! I wanted to help everyone stuck...but damn too man! I even got turned sideways and spun around once. Crazy! :roadkill:
