Weird Brake Issue After Caliper and Pad Change

I squeezed off the brake hoses from letting fluid out and air in.

I also used a Phoenix brake bleeder that bleeds the brakes in the reverse direction.

FYI: NEVER, NEVER EVER Squeeze off a rubber brake line. It can damage the hose internally.

As for reverse bleeding: If there was air no telling where it is now. If you have ABS you should consider taking it to a shop capable and have them bleed ABS system and then have them re-bleed the whole system.

Just my thoughts.

pinch off the line, just don't be stupid with the pressure. it takes 8psi to collapse/seal the hose. if that somehow damages the line, it was going to fail anyway, and you saved your customer another trip to the shop.

I am a ASE Master tech and have work in the industry for over 41 years and have seen a lot of HACKS work on customers cars and do a lot of short cuts and I've had to repair a lot of damage caused by them.

Sorry but there is no reason to clamp a rubber brake line at all!!! If it has to be open a long time there are many ways to cap it not HACK IT!

FYI: I have a lot of very long time customers and they have never had a line failure but just about every internal line failure I have seen you could see a deformed spot on the line from clamping. 8psi or not DON'T HACK IT!

Did you end up fixing the brake feel? I have the same symptoms and the 40 brake pumps also did not work for me.

are you able to see if air is coming out of the bleeder valves when someone pumps the brakes?

Used a motive power bleeder to bleed the system. No air bubbles from the bleeder valves

Did you bleed the master cylinder?

I’ve bled everything but the master cylinder 3 times, but haven’t made much progress on improving the pedal feel.

No, just the brake lines at the calipers. It says bleeding the "brake booster" (I assume that's the master cylinder) isn't necessary unless that part has been removed or replaced.

I ditched the centric calipers and got OEM new toyota calipers. No more issue.

Did you buy OEM new or refurbished calipers? New looks pricey.

And did you stick with aftermarket rotors and pads?

Used same rotors and pads.

That was your fatal mistake. Centric anything is crap. Avoid Chinese rebuilds and parts in general.. likely you had a bad seal on the calipers or air leaking in.

Just curious, how did you bleed the rear brakes?
