Someone help me! There's aweird chirping noise coming from the underside of my 4runner its a 98 limited, and has never had any problems. However, recently it has been making a horrible chirping noise coming from the underside of the car. The noise only happens when i am cruising and am not pressing the brake or gas. It can be making the noise, then if you press the brake, or gas.. the noise will go away. Help!!

I had the same chirping noise you described. Their is a simple fix....Take a grease gun, go under your truck and pump some grease on zerk fittings on the drive shaft. The chirping is actually coming from the slide yoke on the shaft, so make sure get a good amount of grease in there and your problem will be solved!

I am not familiar with your model year, but if you have a distributor then that is a common source of something that sounds like a bird chirping. The alternator is another bearing that can chirp. Use a screwdriver against your ear to locate the source if it is not near the fan.

That sounds like that is exactly the problem! It isnt anything under the hood. So i definetley know that it is something coming from underneath the car. Me and a buddy of mine decided to just have someone hand onto the side of my car, and then the other just drive and coast at about 30 MPH. Very safe. But we figured out where the noise was coming from! But thank you very much for your help. I will def try your remedy tomorrow, and let you know how it works.

The Noise!

The noise is actually coming from the underside of the car. I had a buddy hang out of the car while driving down the road at like 30mph and we figured out that teh noise was coming from the underside of the car.
