weird clunking noise....??

Hey guys when ever my rear axle articulates or flexes it make a single loud clunk.......only when it flexes tho. normal driving it is fine. any ideas or any one here the same thing?? i looked and cant fine anything loose or broken under neath. could it be the sway bar possibly?? any simuler problems or input would be great thanks

I had a weird clunking noise in my 98. Every time I hit a bump it felt and sounded like the rear would bottom out. I couldn't find anything either underneath. I replaced the rear shocks and while i was under there I noticed the spare tire wasn't secure. It wobbled and would hit the floor which echoed in the cab. Check the spare tire. It could be as simple as that.

I recently broke a rear upper control arm. It looked unbroken but when the axle flexed it would pop. It would go right back into place and not look broken. Take a good look.

Could be the carrier itself that is causing the clunk. But also check your endlinks.
