Weird Fuel Issue

I've had this issue for quite sometime, it's not a major issue but just something I'd like to get taken care of. Okay so basically whenever I leave the ignition on ACC it's like the engine still wants to run fuel. So it floods the engine when i try and start it. When I took it to get tinted, I told the tint guy and he said he was just gonna pull the fuel pump and apparently that worked. Has anyone ever had this type of issue or know what would cause this? And where is the fuel pump and how could i pull it if i needed too? Thanks!

Fuel pump relay may be sticking. Fuel pump is probably inside the tank, at least it is on my '04. You can pull the fuse for it in the fusebox under the hood, which is probably what the guy was talking about.
You can download the service manual and check everything out with a DVM to see if the electrical system is working OK.

Is it the fuse labeled EFI?

That isn't a fuel pump issue, at least it isn't only. In the ACC position, your cars starter/ignition/fuel system should not be energized. It appears that it is....

Maybe a short in your starting column or at the wiring harness.

Ahh that's my bad. I always get the ACC and ON position confused. I dont know if that makes a difference. But it's the ON when I can listen to music and stuff like that. Actually I think it does it in both positions.

Yea. It should. ACC should have the Radio and maybe windows? And the power port, for sure. I guess different brands do it differently. But it shouldn't energize the car itself, like the starter or fuel system. Not 100% sure about the ECU, it may allow you for OBD access... but not sure.

Your fuel pump should not be on, though.

ON is ON. You drive in ON and in that position, the entire vehicle has power. The ECU, MAF.. etc. You only use the START position very briefly, which sends power to the starter. Your ignition should have a spring that forces it into the ON from the Start... otherwise you hear that GRRRR of the starter engaging while the engine is already on.

So. Yea. ON will def. have the fuel pump on... And you should not "hang out" in ON if the car is not running, as this will run down the battery and run things needlessly. ACC is for radio.

Okay so I just went and checked. When in ACC i don't get the fuel smell. But when in the ON position it does. I can smell fuel and when I go to start it, it floods and takes a couple extra seconds to start. So you're saying that's normal? Or am I just confused?

Yes. Mine (a 4th) gen does that occasionally. When you are ON the fuel pump spins up to pressurize the system and pumps fuel.

If I am working with my OBD and have ON, ON a bit long.. happens to me as well. Nothing to worry about.

Okay makes sense. I've always just been confused on that. But I have a question. How do they tint windows then? If you pulled the EFI fuse would that stop it the fuel?
