Weird Heat Issue?

I was just curious to what this could be. I was driving my 4runner last fall and something started to get really hot under the two front seats. i had four people with me and the two of us up front were sweating it was so hot. granted none of us were very small people (me being the smallest at 275 lbs) i don't think that caused a random heat spike under my center console. Anyone ever had anything similar? It has not happened since then too. just can't think of what it was. :shrug:

There should be a very noticeable fan under the passenger seat if the rear heat is turned on. If the fan is broken, you could be right.

I'd guess that the transmission may have been slightly overworked with a heavier load... 4 x 300 lbs = 1200 lbs of weight which would be like hauling a small trailer. The transmission is right below the center console.

I don't think it was the rear heat. We had the cool air on and the fan was off in the back. It is possible that the transmission was being overworked but i have pulled a small trailer with a fourwheeler on it with nothing like this. We were on the interstate when this happened to. I am just glad it hasn't happened since.

I agree that it should be obvious. But I've heard of some pretty interesting car complaints over the years. My own Sister took her '01 4Runner in to the Dealer because the interior was getting hot, and she thought she heard a fan-like noise.

It turned out her rear heater had been turned on at some point.

To the OP; Maybe your passengers turned it on/off without realizing it, or as a joke.
