Weird noise coming either from suspension or exhaust, help!!

Hello everyone,

I posted a similar question maybe about a year ago in regards of the issue I have, it was suggested that I need to relub my shafts/zerks or something like that....

This noise is evident when slowing/accelerating or when the truck moves side to side and/or front to back, and also, when you go ever bumps.

I decided to take a short video of it maybe somebody will be able to identify what it is or confirm lubing zerks etc....

This is me pushing down repeatedly on the rear bumper with the door open you can hear the noise a few times....

If you mentioned the word "clunk" you would have been told to grease your driveshaft. Regardless, did you grease the zerks and rid the problem for a year and then it returned, or have you just been putting up with it?

Lol, unfortunately I have been putting up with it. With time that clunk got worse, it seems I hear it all the time.
 
Have had the same noise for over a year. CANNOT figure out what it is. I really though it was the exhaust joint in the middle of the vehicle but I greased that up and it didn't go away. If you figure out what it is you'll be my Savior, it drives me INSANE.
 
I would think it's in the suspension somewhere but who knows...my best attempt to figure it out would be to have someone jump on the bumper will your underneath trying to locate it.
 
the "clunk" is a know issue with 4th gen 4runners. its ussally the binding of the drive shaft when stoping fast. lubricating the rear control arm bushings and drive shaft ussually helps. toyota has no fix as of yet but on the lexus gx470 they r replacing the drive shafts. if u complain enough at ur local dealer they might replace the drive shaft as they did for me. it helps for a little bit but will evenually come back. good luck!

In the video I took of the noise, the vehicle was parked in my driveway. Are you able to confirm that its the same noise that is related to your issue?? IF yes then I will take it to the stealership and hope they know what they are doing....You don't see too many 4runners @ the stealerships that could also be a source of anxiety, hoping they don't screw something else up....


Ill check the spare tire when I get home, Ill post the results in the morning.

I DO NOT think that what you're describing is the driveline clunk. I don't think it's the driveline clunk. I don't think it's the driveline clunk.

Did I mention that I REALLY don't think your squeak is the driveline clunk?

I agree it's probably not that, the only reason I mentioned "clunk" was because the OP said that he was told to grease his zerks. I wasn't actually suggesting that was the issue. Sorry for the confusion!

Doubt it's the tire. Your noise sounds just like mine and I tried tightening, loosening, and removing the spare tire with no success.
 
After tightening the spare, the issue still persists....
Could it be some component of XREAS that's doing that clunk, I am not mechanically inclined but my observations and experience leads me to suggest that it definitely has to do with either the suspension or the driveshaft....

Anyone have any more ideas??
 
driveshaft klunk is same as my jeeps had. It's a thud after you stop or take off. Grease the heck out of the shaft at the splined connection and it will dissapear after a bit and the grease works in. May take a couple of times. easy cure. Most places don't put enugh grease in or forget to grease or too long between lube jobs.
