weird noise

sounds like its coming from the dash and kinda sounds like a "winding up noise" umm i dont know how to descrive it but kinda sounds like a toy wind up car winding out.

it comes from the dash area and only does it when i first start my car in the morning. i could stop at a friends for 5 hours and leave and it wont do it. it only does it when sitting over night or very long.

it only lasts about 5-10 seconds and its not very loud. ive been hearing it for a while and never thought anything of it.. but now that i think back my truck didnt ALWAYS make that noise. if i shift into reverse right away it doesnt stop right away but it doesnt make the sound as long as if i just idled in park..

again the noise is hard to describe but if anyone knows what it is, im sure they know what it sounds like.

any feedback?

Is it coming from the A/C panel area? It sounds like it may have to do with the vent selector control.

i forgot i posted this, but this morning i got in my car a few mins early before work to see how long the noise lasts before i put my truck into drive...

it seems to last for about 20 seconds when left if park. when i put it into drive it stops about 5 seconds after.

the sounds seems to be coming from the left side of my speedo

when i described it as a winding up thats not very accurate. i dunno how to describe the sound. its something i dont believe ive heard before, but kinda sorta not really along the lines of a type of electronic "hum"... its bothering the shit out of me and id really like to find out what it is

with only one reply i can be certain its not normal and something no one else hears. at first i thought it was me beinng too OCDish, but it def wasnt always there..

Is it the Brake booster motor running? By delaying in park you are preventing it from doing its' ABS self check and maybe the motor keeps running until you roll? That's just a guess. I'll listen to mine today.

Try shutting down with the climate control 'off'. Maybe you're hearing the fan for the interior temp sensor.

Those are just a guess.

well to be honest i was going to say that i thought it had something to do with the brakes. i dont know why but i feel like it was something brake related. wtf is a brake booster and what does it do? and is this normal?

It is normal. The T4R uses an electric motor for it's brake boost system rather than the traditional vacuum or hydraulic (off of the power steering pump).

is it possible that mine is going bad? or something is malfunctioning? i really dont remember heaing this before, and it seems to be too loud to be normal. unless im just a freak and think everything is worse that it really is ( partially true lol )

ok so basically just came to the realization my OCD is just out of control. i was in my buddys 4runner today and his does the same thing. also noticed with the radio off, after braking hard i hear the noise too!

man i need to calm down. does it bother you that when racing the driver and passenger windowsdown, one of them gets to the bottom first? hah it bothers me !

i need some meds! lol
