Hey guys,
I thought I'd share my experience to see if anyone has had the same problem or if someone can help me solve my problem. I've got a 2000 limited with 220000 miles and I've had a scan gauge hooked up to it for 5 or 6 years now. I have it set up to show air intake temp, coolant temp, rpm, and voltage. About a month ago I drove it to work no problems and went to turn it on to go home probably 10 hours later and the gauges jumped when I started it. Almost like the new electronic cars do but my rpms went to 6000 and back down and the mph moved to about 10 and back down. I put it in reverse and hit the gas and the rpms shot up but I was barely moving. Almost like I wasn't in gear but you could feel power going to the wheels just very little. Put it in drive and same thing rpms high and I'm hardly accelerating. Came to stop and shifted to first and as long as I didn't accelerate hard I could shift through the gears to drive again but I couldn't exceed 35 without loss of power. All the while my gauges and my scan gauge readings are showing my rpm and mph as all over the place. As I accelerate the mph seems to bounce around what I was going, going as much as 10 mph over or under what I felt I was going. Rpms were either not working at all or doing the same as mph. Once I got home I checked behind the instrument cluster. Checked speed sensors. Checked TPS and MAF sensors all seemed good. Turned truck back on and it ran perfectly. 1 week later same exact situation, leaving work and problems again. Tried turning off and back on several times. Tried checking for codes even though none of my dash lights were on. Nothing.got home and looked up as much as I could without starting a new thread about it. This is my F'D so leaving it home for a week was out of the question. Went to my mechanic to look over it and he found nothing. This happens on and off for another week or so, maybe 7 times total during that time. One day when I was driving home while it was happening I decided that I was going to disconnect all my accessories in case that's an issue and at a red light decided to start with my scan gauge. Unplugged it from the obd port and put it in my glove box. Maybe 3 minutes later the truck is running back to normal. No symptoms what so ever. Because I just have to push things I decided to see what would happen if I plugged it back in. Minutes later problems were back. This time when I unplugged it the problem stayed but once I got home and let it sit overnight I haven't had the problem since. My guess is that since the scan gauge has the ability to send information to the computer in my runner that it must have sent something to my my runner act the way it did. Anyone ever have something similar happen. Sorry for the long post I tried to sum it up as best I could. Thanks guys
