Weird Smell

I got my Vortex installed today. It sounds AWESOME. I love it. There is something werid though. When I was headed home I started to smell a weird smell. I'm not really sure how to describe it, but it wasn't there before. Any ideas?

Edit: Can just changing the muffler add any performance? I also did the deckplate mod about two weeks ago and didn't notice any change, but with the muffler throttle response seems to be a lot better.

That should be normal. I noticed a kind of nasty smell in the first few days of putting my Dynomax on. I think that it must be the internals getting heated up for the first time... I'm sure there is another way to describe it better, but it should go away soon.

small gains can be had

Yes a new cat or a new muffler or both will cause some weird odors for about a week or two until they burn in.

Yes you can get a little bit better horsepower and sometimes miles per gallon with the right muffler

The deckplate supposedly added about 6 ponies for you-it has been dyno tested.

You are likely getting more air in and more exhaust out and somewhat more efficiently.

I bought a dynomax full exhaust system for may suv last week and i notice this awe full smell but i think its the fiber inside that are being burned but when i ask the shop about the issue they said its normal so i guess its ok then... by the way i saw announcement that they will be having a Dynomax Rebate i just hope its true

is this smell true with all mufflers or only ones with the cotton type stuff in them? because i am putting a full flowmaster from headers back on my mustang next week

I have noticed this with most any vehicle that I have had new cats or mufflers on shootmymime. Once had a 83 Mazda GLC 4door with I think a whopping 68 horsepower or some such figure-and 2 cats! Those 2 were plugged and when replaced they were particularly smelly for about a full 2 weeks.
