Weird sound under rear of vehicle

This weekend, we took the runner out to the desert, and after stopping to set up camp, I noticed a sound coming from the rear of the truck. I thought I had a hole in one of my tires. But that's not it. I didn't hit any rocks that could knock something loose back there. The road was all sand. Any idea what else could make an air leak sound back there?

None of those. Suspension is fine, no gas leaks, and the spare is brand new. I might just be hearing things. It's quite a bit quieter out in the desert, and there's no other background noise to interfere with.

And, no way it could be a gas leak. I got my best MPG yesterday since owning the truck. 18.3 mpg with the A/C on. WOOHOO

Yesterday I thought it was a hiss. Today when I listened, it sounded more like a whine. So maybe it is the pump. I'll get under the truck tomorrow and see if I can pinpoint where it's coming from.

hmmm, maybe a cat got itself wedged on top of the gas tank. If the sound goes away but there's a foul smell a few days from now. Well mystery solved.
