Welding to Diff Housing / pumpkin

Hi All, on my rear axle, on the pumpkin, I have manage to break off the support bracket for brake line. I was going to just customize a piece and weld it on. Is there any thing that I should be concerned about other than keeping the settings as low as possible on my welder (flux core)?


Everything that I have found is for major weld jobs like cracks and such and not a little/basic job like this.

Keep the setting for the thickness your welding. I've welded on brake line brackets (1/8 steel), and new shock mounts (3/16ths) to the axle. Brake brackets few years ago, a couple of days ago the shock mounts. All with flux core. You are good to go, no issues.

Awesome thanks. I did not think there was really any concern as I just welding a piece to hold the brake line in place, so nothing major. And yes, like you said, I will keep the settings for the metal I am using.

Yep. But if your adding a truss or really burning something in, you need to be more careful. Let us know how it turned out.

Well overall the repair went smooth. I had to replace both brackets. I am not much of a welder but I am happy with my work and it does the job and it seems secure, I gave it a few light hits with the hammer and it did not move. I will clean up the axel some more and give it a protective coating.
