Guys

As many of you know I bought a 06 SR5 with a sunroof. I posted that I was not comfortable with the headroom once I got it and even considered selling it. I have since decided that although its less than I would like, I was going to keep the Runner since it was doable and this truck is so perfect in most every other way. Well yesterday I HAD to go sit in a 06 without a sunroof to see how it felt. There was a noticeable difference. BUT.....I never knew how much more the sunroof added in terms of overall appeal to the vehicle. Just sitting in the 06 without the sunroof was not as enjoyable as mine. The sunroof makes the vehicle feel so much more refined and upgraded. I also really enjoy the openess the sunfoof adds to the vehicle. So, for those of you who have not owned a 4 runner before like me who are tall, its worth carefully analyzing the headroom with and without the sunroof but also weighing this against the coolness of having 1 which I now feel to be important at least to me.

Uh, not to be a smarta$$ or anything, but shouldn't you have checked this out before buying the 4Runner :

I agree with you -- I've only owned two daily-driver vehicles that didn't have a sunroof and I realy missed them. That's why I made sure the 4Runner had one. Of course, I'm a lot shorter than you are so it's less of a problem.

I love the sunroof in the 4runner. It's freaking HUGE!!!! My last car had a sunroof and I made sure the 4runner did too when purchasing time came.

I've had some repair done on it and hopefully they've fixed the gremlins because it would be expensive after warranty. I've been through it with my last car and not looking forward to it again.

Also, I haven't heard many reports of sunroof problems from the 2005/2006 owners. I guess Toyota figured out the problems from the 2003/2004 models.

Not a smart ass question at all. I'm actually a lttle embarrassed that I let this get by. But I did. I researched the crap out of the 4 runner before I bought it. However not having ever owned a car or truck with a sunroof I actually did not know you lost headroom when you got one. So I must have test drove one without a sunroof and never noticed a problem. Do I feel a little silly having missed this. Yep. But I did. I would be willing to bet others have made this mistake also. That's really the reason for the post. To help others not overlook the conseqences of having a sunroof or not having one. There are many larger suv's on the market where the addition of the sunroof would not matter due to the larger headroom dimensions. The 4 runner is NOT not one of them.

i got 06 t4r WITHOUT sunroof and it was an easy decision for me. i originally opted for one WITH sunroof cuz i figured it can't hurt to have one. but once i realized this headroom issue with and without sunroof, i asked myself how often i used the sunroof in my last car. last year? zero times. last few years? zero times. in fact, i couldn't remember the last time i used the sunroof open in my last car which i kept for 4~5 years. guess it's my personality but iprefer to turn fans on, rather than keep windows or sunroofs open if it gets hot.

That's one of the benefits of living in the South -- the sunroof comes in very handy. As a matter of fact, I used it today coming home from the gym....it was 55 degrees outside and just beautiful.

And yes, I use it during the summer when it's over 90 degrees, too.
