Well, My inner tie rod completely failed today

Starting to see too many ITRE and OTRE failures popping up on here. Thank God you weren't on a trail in the middle of no-where. I just posted this the other day for someone. Same place I got my I/OTRE's. Took a while and the shipping from Dubai was still way cheaper then any on-line US parts warehouse. Not a huge savings on the OTRE's

Yeah I just saw this site last night. I'm ordering inner rods, tre's, and lower ball joints shipped for 460. That's cheaper that anything I've found here

Did you receive them yet? Kind of weird to shop for OEM Yota parts from Dubai.

How's the packaging etc?

Yes I received (Mar 2106) and installed (Dec 2016) them. They were shipped by Dekada Trading, Sharjah, Dubai. Shipping and packaging was fantastic.

The new ones came in OEM packaging and includes the lock washer. Huge difference. Took about a week and half or two, to arrive if I recall correctly



Here's the old one. I knew these were pretty much shot. Every time I turned the wheel I could feel a clunk. Threw it up on a lift and grabbed the tire and the ITRE had so much play in it.

I just replaced mine this week. Paid $523.32 from OEM Part Source.

Thanks! This is how I will be going most likely then. 212k miles on mine and no leaks. I think it's proven itself to be worth of the extra couple hundred dollars.

So I was looking back through my thread and I found that when I got the steering rack I also ordered new oem inner tie rods for it as I didn't want to take any chances with what came with the rack. So it turns out that it WAS a toyota oem inner rod that broke. I guess I can't blame it on cheap aftermarket parts after all. Pretty scary

Wow, that's alarming!

I'm sure its been said, but as much as an inconvenience as it is, at least it was low speed and didn't cause an accident!

I have a remanufactured steering rack on mine, I swear it has had "less droop" than my old OEM one.

I redid my outer tie rod ends already, but now I'm thinking I should get OEM Inners "just because". I am about to swap out my lower arms, upper lower ball joints, upper bushes and wheel bearings at the front anyway, so need an alignment doing.. it makes sense to do it now!

RE: parts form Dubai, I have just ordered some too. Some parts are cheaper, (cheap enough to make the postage worth it) I just ordered rear LCA bushes, and upper control arms and bushes. (I'm going back to OEM!) Edit: and as I was typing that, the FedEx man appeared with my parts. Yay car parts!

I got a quote Today from a UK Toyota Dealership.. (including Tax converted to USD)

Inner tie rod ends: $263.81 EACH
Outer Tie Rod Ends: $149.55 EACH

That'll be another Dubai order coming up. (For something I don't really need anyway, but "feel" I should)

A brand new lbj??!! That's scary. Seems like most lbjs fail at slow speeds while the wheel is turned, which is good. But it's not to think about it failing on the the highway at 70+. I just don't think these front ends like being lifted.

I drove my buddies 08 sr5 again this past weekend, I'm pretty convinced that I'm going to be making the transition within the next year. It will be sad to see jitters go. But I'm needing something does well on the highway.

Are you sure that's an OEM part that failed? In your first post of the failed joint, the grease appears black and the ball socket (the part that screws onto the steering rack) is black metal. I recall the OEM joint having a grey metal socket and red colored grease.

Well, according to my records they are oem. Looking back I do remember changing them when I bought the steering rack cause I didn't want any cheap crap on my front end. I will compare them to new oem inner rods when they get here from Japan. Are there any markings on the oem rods that you know of?

I don't remember the OEM ITREs having any markings. They actually look almost identical to the Sankei 555, but the OEMs have a red grease and the Sankei is yellow. The Sankeis also have a distinct 555 Made in Japan stamping.

But who knows, maybe different model years use different suppliers. I know the steering rack guide design was changed in 2000.

That Amayama site is crazy good! Are they OEM Toyota parts. From Toyota parts direct the Inner tie rods are 253 CND each, in that site its 96.00 CND! thats over 100$ saved for each one, anyone know if they charge crazy shipping or are they just generally cheaper! :becky:

Yeah they will come OEM if you choose the OEM parts. If I remember right they also show prices for non OEM parts. Not all parts are cheaper through them but I found its good savings on the ITRE's.

Yeah i matched it with the other site i use to buy OEM parts and i literally saved 48% from 1400 w/o shipping to 800 with shippingfor the same items I wonder if they can price match LOL

My local dealer price matches online prices if I ask for a price quote through there website. But they price matched other local dealers, not a warehouse in Dubai! HA

Shipping is expensive, yes. But if you can wait a few months for parts you can save on shipping. I ordered inner tie rods and lower ball joints. Paid like 90 for shipping, but still saved over any prices I've seen here in the us. But like jayrolla said, not everything is cheaper.
