Well Poop!!

I bought a 1995 T4R a couple weeks ago after totalling out my 540 BMW. I thought it would be nice to have a 4wd for winter. The truck drives well, everything works and the interior is in very good, albeit dirty, condition.

I noticed it wouldn't really get to full operating condition, so I figured stuck thermostat. I had my indy shop replace the t-stat and it worked well, for short trips. The first longer trip, it started to overheat.

They have spent a bunch of time trying to diagnose it and they have come to the conclusion that someone must have installed bad head gaskets or flipped them side for side.

So, my T4R will have new head gaskets, new water pump, new timing belt, and new t-stat. They are also replaced a bunch of broken bolts and missing bolts. They have always done good work for me, so I guess when I get it back I will be confident that the major points of failure in the engine have been addressed.

Cliffs: Bought T4R, ran fine til I messed with it, now doing head gaskets, timing chain, water pump.

These 3.0 L V6's are notorious for blowing the head gasket (apparently). Did you see if it was covered under the Toyota recall before they started fixing it?
