Went to clean my throttle body...

and I found that the stud on the upper lefthand corner (in place of one of the four bolts found here) of the throttle body has been sheared off.

How important is it that it be replaced? It's 2007 V8.

well i would venture to say toyota has it there for a reason. did you snap it off or was it already done? seems pretty odd snapping a bolt off in some aluminum but i guess it happens. go get an easy out, pull it out and replace.

I'm not sure how yours broke off, but I broke mine myself. I apologize for not replying to my earlier thread-I didn't notice anyone else posted. I ended up bringing mine to a shop to do it right. I was afraid I would mess something else up. The stud is like $8?, but mine was broken so my mechanic had to drill it out, then re-tap it....I think. Altogether it was like a $45 fix, but I didn't go through the dealer; they would probably charge much more. Anyways, I would fix it with a local mechanic if I were you. It not expensive, and its worth the insurance that you keep a tight seal and that nothing bad can happen. It was peace of mind for me. Best of luck, let us know what happens.

I have resolution. Took it to my local dealership and they removed and replaced with new hardware. Total time invested 45 minutes, free of charge.

810moto, my original post wasn't an effort to see if it could be left off -- more a question of how quickly the situation needed to be dealt with before it became even more serious.

Wow! That's awesome they fixed it free of charge. You never clarified if you bought it used like that or if you did it yourself. If you bought it used it makes sense that they fixed it for free.

I think it's safe to assume I bought it like that, aethb. As soon as I tried to remove the nut on that post, the nut and a portion of the threaded post just flew off. I just don't think I could have caused that damage trying to back the nut off.
