What 5th Gen would you get and with what options?

My old man is turning in his Beamer and likes my 4th Gen so much that he is seriously considering getting a new 4Runner. I don't know much about the 5th Gens, but he likes them. If you were to get a new 5th Gen today, what model and options would you get? He has plenty of time before he turns in his Beamer, so it may be worth it to special order one with the exact options that he wants instead of the "regional packages" that are offered in different locales.

For those of you with the KDSS suspension, do you like it or would you rather have something else?

For those of you that have driven the 4th Gen V8s and the 5th Gen V6s, how do they compare?

I am old, and just bot a Blue Trail Edition last weekend with the KDSS option. This was the only vehicle (with the KDSS)that I would have traded my Tacoma in that I had fixed up exactly the way I wanted it. 7-8 years ago I had a V8 sport edition, so I have not driven them back to back, however my observation is that the 4.0 does not feel as snappy but feels like the power comes on more smoothly. I am just starting my upgrades. So far, better fuel mileage than my Tacoma

What kind of driving is he planning on doing with it? If he's going to keep it on the pavement and is used to the BMW luxury he should probably try the Limited and GX 460. I love my TE with KDSS but I bought it for use on trails, otherwise I would've gone with the Limited for the centre diff.

He is used to the luxury and was thinking about the GX, but then after he drove my 4th Gen for a week, he really liked it and is considering the T4R.

Most of his driving is on pavement, some on construction sites, and he very rarely tows. However, he is used to the 4.8L X5 now and had a Range Rover before the X5. I think he would like the Lexus a bit more because it has more luxurious features and the V8, but I don't think its worth it for $20,000 more.

If he's into "just getting in and driving it" I am going to say a 4WD Limited, and he should test drive the GX as the next model up, and leave it up to him which one he thinks is worth the money. Both have the automagic-everything he's used to in a BMW, but more conservative and less quirky.

Around here the new GX's were asking about 55k, and the Limited T4Rs around 39. Not quite 20k more.

My 5th gen feels more ponderous than the 4th gen I got to drive, so the vehicle is going back more to its roots as a truck. The GX I am told, much less so.

If I could do it over, I would buy a TE with aftermarket heated leather seats.
