What A Day!

Ape Runner

Woke up at 3am to the sound of pounding on my front door. Through the peep hole I see it's an officer, who then tells me my 4Runner was involved in a hit and run by a drunk driver. My car was the first of 3 cars hit in a 2 mile stretch, and then a tree which finally debilitated the moron. They caught him, drove him off in an ambulance, and he has insurance.

Super bummed about it. Guessing they'll probably total my rig due to the cost of repairs vs. value of vehicle. I'll know by next week if insurance will fix it or total it. I hope they fix it, otherwise I'm in the market for a 3rd gen with 4x4 and a locker.

With all the education out there these days about the dangers of drunk driving, there are still sooooo many MORONS who think they're "OK to drive"! I wish they would lock these guys up for year, for every time they are caught, nevermind if they kill someone!

I say, if they do kill someone in the process, they do Life in Prison!

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I've had family killed by drunk drivers. I hope you get your rig fixed man!

No parts for sale. The drunk had insurance, so not going to part it out. I'm hoping he insurance company says they'll fix it instead of totaling it, but I don't know if they will. Wifey has been talking about a new 4Runner. While I'd still like to have this one back for the time being, it makes me go hmmmm :)

Actually, you are quite lucky. Not that your 4runner got hit, but that the guy got caught, has insurance, and the police have no question that he was the one that did it.

Could have been alot worse for you and your neighbors...

Agreed, as much as this sucks for you, it could have been so much worse.

Agreed, the situation played out as best as possible so far. That doesn't mean I'm thankful it happened!

Don't be too quick to hate it, though.

I am thankful someone was not paying attention and hit my back bumper with his van, because now I have a badass CBI offroad bumper. I am also thankful that insurance also decided to redo half my truck for a damaged fender. Sport hood and new paintjob later, sure don't mind :)

Lets just hope it isn't totaled, you might walk away a lucky new owner of lots of new 4Runner toys :thumb3:

And if it is totaled, you might just end up with something nicer, or that 3rd or newer gen you've always wanted. My mom was angry when someone lost control and crashed into her Previa. She doesn't mind her new 4th gen 4Runner, either :P

Hey Ape, sory to hear the bad news man.
I know how you feel, 1 week ago today i was hit by a crazy taxi driver who ran the light and T'd right into my front end, engine is now pushed back- looking at over 10K of repairs. Good&Bad:bad thing it was My Mom's 2005 Sequoia Limited not my 02 Runner, Good thing my mom's Sequoia is a Beast &layed down itself to save me and im thankful for it. It is now waiting for repairs and it just pisses me also that this guy had two passengers in his cab that night. He didnt even have the balls to get out his car when the police and paramedics showed up.
Dont worry my friend the important thing is nobody was hurt, the police have ALL of the idiot's info and it'll work out in the best way. Have faith and be strong buddy.

Agreed.

Thank for the sympathy guys; I needed that pick me up and knew this community would understand the sentimental value of the rig. The upside, if they total it, is that I could find one with a locker :)

had my 01 Yukon XL get totaled from a golf ball size hail storm. would have kept it cause I could have lived with the dents, but didn't want a salvaged titled rig, but actually found a 00 with a few more miles but no kids have been in it it, so it was (WAS) imaculate inside. but then again we got lucky

which ever way it pans out, I hope it works out for the good. insurance company's can go either way.
