Don't think this even needs further explanation.

The safe space has gotten out of control. Done.

Political section

Brian: I support establishment of a political section. Especially now, since all the crazies have been released and the next 4 years will be a TRE ( Army term for target rich environment). There will be lots of things to poke fun at.

Looking forward to lots of laughs on both sides.

I have to say, I don't see why a political thread would be a bad thing.

Because there are people on this board who regularly participate in these "political" wankfests who probably can't be trusted to keep their wankery confined to a political thread or forum, and the rest of us don't want to see that shit spilling all over the rest of the off-topic forum.

Look, guys, here's the thing. Admin is an absentee owner who gives no fawks as long as his ad revenue keeps coming in. So running the board is left to the guys who give enough shits to have volunteered as moderators, and they're doing the best they know how with the time they have to invest. Those that don't like it need to put up or shut up. If you haven't at least tried to volunteer as a moderator (I know you have nevada, not looking at you) then you really don't have the right to b!tch.

Being a moderator is an utterly thankless job, and if you haven't run or helped moderate a board you've got no idea the levels of shit these guys put up with. I've got my own concerns about the way a lot of things get done around here, but I refuse to volunteer to help make money for a guy that couldn't care less about the community here, so I keep my fawkin yap shut and I say thanks to the guys doing the dirty work.

What I hear often is that modding is hard because delicate flowers complain and people are tired of getting complaints. That's lame. For one thing if you are a mod and don't want to dedicate to much time to reading people's complaints then simply set a quota.

For example: Mods could simply decide to moderate 2 hours a week each and no more. The worst that will happen is a post won't get corrected. At the end of the day light modding (vs strong) is not going to break a forum and in many cases (excluding the whiners) may actually be more popular.

Also lame is the idea that no one can discuss anything newsworthy that is also political. It's a catch 22 since nearly all news is political especially in 2016.

My suggestion to create a POLITICS section is merely moving discussion into a dedicated area outside of Off-Topic.

As for the ADMIN... Well clearly people are interested in discussing the news on T4R and by banning news/politics the site is losing out on ad revenue.

Would you perhaps support this new section if I found 2-3 members who volunteer to mod only that new section?

I greatly appreciate the work mods do but at the same I disagree with a blatant ban on news/politics. Telling everyone to F off isn't really going to make this go away. I stopped commenting in OT for near two months and this debate still rages.

Good for you sticking up for the guys who actually help us out here. I agree that admin is about pointless. Now you're going to have those that will talk political no matter what. But why not give them that one space to do so, that way we don't have it littering the forum.

In support of the spirit (or at least title) of this thread here's a non political joke.

No safe spaces here.

I would ASSUME threads like this are the exact reason why we don't have the political threads anymore. People don't get what they want then create another thread complaining about it. Now MODS would just have to deal with thread consolidation and clean up/deletion/banning. Sorry you didn't get what you want, but there are always several other forums where you could?
Why do you keep pushing for it on this forum, when there are several other toyota/4runner/auto forums that topic already exist and is discussed.
It doesn't come down to safe space, it comes down to dealing with copious amount of b.s. that spews over from those threads that also just happens to be the same players every time in these threads degrading people who disagree with them.

ive been unplugged and at hunting camp the last 6 days, what did I miss?
what got closed?

link?

Jealous of your past week, and you didn't miss anything and nothing has been recently closed. More importantly. . . .did you get anything hunting?

While you were out I requested the creation of a politics section. You can read the fun here:
--> http://www.toyota-4runner.org/off-t...section-has-been-submitted-2.html#post2535227

This current thread was made before my request was even submitted. I assume OP just likes good jokes.

The quick summary is that the request has been denied. JWaldz summed it here:
Politics and religion have never been a topic that remains civil on most forums. There's ALWAYS multiple people who like to stir the pot. Then we, the mods, have to sift through report after report of people complaining about those people who are instigating and attempting to start non-civil conversation. Which is guaranteed to happen. It's an endless cycle and let me tell you, it's one thing to be a mod and try to keep up with the entire forum but it's another to be completely Switzerland on ALL topics.

We don't get paid for this gig, we volunteered and there's not that many active mods here on this forum. We enjoy it this way b/c it makes keeping up to stay neutral between each other that much easier. With that said, we make personal time to go through all the stuff that goes on here on a daily basis. What we don't want is to add to that by having to go through all the bs that politics and religion will bring to this forums. It's unnecessary.

There's MANY other places to read and discuss these 2 topics and we'd like to keep T4R the way it is, without them. They don't have to exist on this forum for it to stay relevant and afloat. There's plenty else to converse about. I don't think it's too much to ask to take these topics elsewhere.

don't be too jealous, it was a bust. I didn't even see a legal animal. we got a decent bit of fresh snow the other day, through all my hikes, and drives, I didn't even see any fresh tracks. depressing.

@-JD- did specifically mention a thread getting closed.
