what air filter is everyone running?

I just bought a 2015 SR5 ( I know, i needed the 3rd row) and I was wondering which air filter everyone is running? Also, did you notice any difference at all in gas mileage and or horsepower? I know it wont be much if at all but just thought I would ask.

FYI asking a question about a CAI on pretty much any car forum will get you flamed or a bunch of snarky responses.

That being said, there is very little to be gained by adding an aftermarket CAI or filter, and the dynos from the manufacturer aren't really considered reliable because they're from the company trying to sell you the product. In most modern vehicles, an aftermarket intake is not really necessary unless you're going forced induction and a custom tune. True the ECU can adjust to the increased airflow, but won't net you a noticeable gain in power.

However, as the owner of a K&N CAI, I can tell you from first hand experience that the two things you will gain are louder/deeper intake sound and better mid-range throttle response & power. I drive up a decent grade to work everyday, and after getting the intake I noticed I can sit in 4th gear and maintain speed, instead of the truck gradually losing speed and having to downshift because it doesn't have the power to push that gear going uphill.

If that's worth it to you then go for it, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that many believe CAI/Exhaust upgrades to be a waste of money because of the minimal gains (other than sound), and they love to talk down to people for asking, because you know, for some reason they really care about how you spend YOUR money on YOUR truck.

aFe Pro-Dry S filter in TRD CAI. (will fit regular/OEM air intake as well.)

5 years with this filter to date. used oil analysis shows silicon numbers at or below unit averages so it must be filtering as good as—or at least no worse than—OEM paper filter.

Yep, that is how it looks. Also it is not dirty, it's charcoal for better cleaning.

I just replaced mine at 20K with this Wix OEM style filter. Cheap and OEM fit.

Yep, that is how it looks. Also it is not dirty, it's charcoal for better cleaning.

OP is asking about engine air filter. easy to get confused; been a lot of cabin filter noise in the last couple days.

Lol yea mini-rant over. I'm just tired of people getting trolled for asking seemingly innocent questions. When he asked "what kind of power gains to expect" I didn't want him to get thrown to the wolves aka "I use the Type-R Racing intake with TRD supercharger. Check it out bro!"

I run the TRD air filter. Nothing wrong with the SR5, I had to get the 3rd row too. Blank canvas, to build as I want.

aFe dry flow works pretty well. I didn't notice much of a difference though.

I LOVE the SR5, I had a Tacoma for years but needed more interior room for the kids. I live in Delaware and we are very very flat, not much off roading going to take place since we don't have anywhere to go. I had an AFE in my Tacoma but I didn't notice much of a difference, so I was just asking if anyone saw a difference in their 4Runners. Thanks for the responses and the opinions. I will be asking many questions in the future, since most on here have more knowledge when it comes to this stuff then I do.

I run with a K&N. Sounds better, the dealer hates it because he knows he can't charge me triple price to change it out. and I couldn't really tell you about the MPG or the power,so I guess that means there is little to no difference. It's worth it just to piss off my dealer!

One of my first mods was to change out the filter to the K&N drop in filter. Not sure if I notice anymore power or not...but it screams near the redline which only attempted once at full throttle. Overall it has a louder meaner growl when you floor it, especially mated to the TRD exhaust. I'm happy with my combo of the two.
