What are these things?

I am working with a company to have a custom cargoliner made (covering the cargo floor, back of 2nd row seats, and side panels found under rearmost windows) and we need to figure out what function several of the pieces have in the cargo area. The reason is so we know whether to make cut-outs in the cargoliner for some of these pieces.

The truck is a 2010 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium Pkg WITHOUT 3rd row seats/sliding tray

Here are my questions:
A) Any idea what # 1, 2, 3, and 4 are used for?
B) What is the silver loop in #4 used for?
C) The piece in #4 looks like its a removable "plate". Can this piece be removed?
D) Are 5a and 5b are connected to each other or two separate compartments?
E) What is the reason/logic behind Toyota's thinking for the shape of #5 compartment?

1 and 2 are for a pull out tonneau cover, i've yet to see a 4Runner with one though

Silver loop in 4 is for a cargo tie down hook, you can get a cargo net that lashes things down to the floor so that they don't fly around the cargo area

Mine came with one, just part of the 'package' I guess, along with the useless 'wheel locks'

5a and 5b are connected. I guess that's just the shape of the space they had in the fender well. :shrug:

5a and b are really just 5 (one compartment). It is the space that the JBL subwoofer goes in the Limited models. I guess Toyota decided to try and make a useable storage area for it. It will work nicely to stow some of my loose equipment when I head to the water with my outrigger canoes or SUP.

The cargo area (tonneau) cover is another add on accessory in the NW region, just like the roof rack crossbars.

Looks like a cover under which there could be a screw fastening the trim panel to the body.

LOL I'll tell you, and I don't even own a 5th gen!
1 and 2 are for the pull out tonneau cover as stated earlier, 5a and b are just a storage compartment for ropes and crap (3rd gens have the same thing except we got a nifty door to hold it in), 3 is just a cap to cover the screw/bolt beneath it and 4 is a tie down anchor to tie down objects from sliding around the back.

I have an Australian cattle dog (aka blue heeler) mix that really sheds and a Catahoula Leopard Dog that fortunately has very short hair so the shedding is not as noticeable. I take it you have German Shepherds.

Interested in how to protect underneath the rear window. Worried my dogs will be scratching the back when they put their heads out the window.

I found your mods thread so I can watch for pictures there. Thanks!
