What bulbs for my Hella's

Currently right now i have the stock 55W bulbs in my hella's they are pretty old 8-10 years old and want to swap them for something brighter and whiter in color, i was thinking Silver star ultras, maybe even HID's conversions, idk how hard or how much that would be, so what brand bulbs would be best for the best brightness possible! thanks

are HID's a PITA in do on something like these, i already have the wires ran to the lights would i have to redo the wiring or would it require heavy modification

ehh if there like a h3 just plug them in like normal bulbs will be a ground and a power wire for the ballast

no you would have to rewire for HIDs, they draw a lower wattage but much higher amps and they will require heavier wiring cause of the increased power demand.

if your hella's are ran off a relay just bump the wire going to the lights off the relay to a 12ga

after reading a lot on google and other forums, seems like HID's are the only way to go to get the max lighting out of them, might be a PITA but might have to be done, hopefully i can get them done before winter comes! ill probably go with DDM since they seem to be most reliable for members on this site

wow ddm's are actually pretty cheap, but do i need a dual in and dual out harness? what about an error eliminator...:wtf:

Nope. Just buy the regular kit with an H3 bulb, probably a 6000K color. Go 55w slim ballast :thumb3:


For those of you who have put HID's in driving lights, especially roof mounted, please chime in about how to wire them up because the wiring from the light to the balast is pretty short on these kits

Not necessarily. Depends on the lights you go with. Our stock bulbs are an H4/9003. For example, the Hella 500ff's have an H3 bulb.

What Hella's do you have?

There are alot of H4 configurations

im running 90/120W h4 blubs. Work great and there real cheap.

they are for my hella's not sure which model they are here are some pics, all i know is they are an H4 bulb so just figured i would use an H4 HID kit maybe not though....?

did you just want to see the bulb cuz its the same exact bulb that goes in our runner for the head lights, if you want to see the inside of the housing i can take a pic of those, ya they are pretty old probably 10yrs old, got them for free though so don't mind saving a couple hundred if i can spend 60$ and get them working decent with some HID's

o if its the same set up then just get a h4 hid's dont get the hi low ones though id go with like a 5000k or 4500 if u want a hint of yellow

the question is now the standard 55w hid i believe is only a low beam, unless i go with the lo/hi kit, I'm using a standard toyota fog light switch, is there a way to make it so only the brights are being used if i get the lo/hi kit, i don't need low beams on these lights

after waiting on hold for a long 30mins i talked to a tech support guy and told me how to wire it up for hi's only going to order the kit hopefully works out well! if not ill run them in my driving lights!
