I was trying to get my buddy out of a mud whole, yesterday, he has an 07 tundra, needless to say i couldnt pull him out easy at all, i had all 4 wheels on the asphalt, so i resulted in the last thing snatching and tried numerous times still unsuccesful, i was really worried about damaging major componets in my 4runner, i was using a big ripe not snatch trap, what componets could have been damaged please help

Then you're probably just fine. You should probably mention what YOUR truck is as well if you want any meaningful responses though.

You probably did no damage.

A few notes though.
*Being on the asphalt can put a real strain on your drivetrain.
*Using a rope instead of a true snatch strap will transfer energy into the vehicles.
*A snatch strap absorbs that energy and releases it to yank the vehicle out. They transfer that energy smoothly into the vehicles.
*A properly sized snatch strap is a must. Bigger is not better. To big/strong of a strap will not stretch properly.
*There is a difference between a tow strap (they don't stretch) and a recovery/yank strap (that stretches).
*Using a tow ball to connect a strap is dangerous. With the energy stored/released can sheer the ball off which can go flying violently.

This is why proper recovery points are required at major events, even for stock runs. For most of us a 2" or 3" is the right size Recovery strap. If you wheel mostly in Mud or Rocks than the 3" as you need to factor in resistance based on how mired the vehicle is in the obstacle. You can invest in a simple receiver shackle mount to go in your hitch. Also remember when using D-ring shackle you turn all the way bottomed out then back off 1/4 turn.
