What cargo gear/accessories do you all use/recommend for a roof rack?

Just (finally) got a Gobi roof rack and looking to get some tie downs, straps, netting, containers, etc...

I can probably go to Home Depot for ratchet tie downs and Walmart for a plastic container, but I'm assuming there are other options that may be better suited; any recommendations?

Also, what are your thoughts on those roof cargo bags? Any suggestions for a good one?

I’m going to give this one a shot. It’s a 35” rolling job box. I’m hoping that I can consolidate my campin* gear into this one box... we’ll see.

I have a small Harbor Freight ammo box with an assortment of ratchet tie down and lashing straps, and a small bag like this stuffed with assorted length bungee cords and a generic cargo net. The net has about a dozen small S-clips or the little aluminum carabiners attached to it so I can adjust the slack out of it when it is in place. The Rubbermade Action Packer seems to be a popular choice for storage needs.

I have one of these bolted down across the back of roof rack. I keep recovery gear - shackles, straps, etc., in it.

Straps, bags and boxes for roof rack

I have a Sherpa Bag for light-weight duffle bags and sleeping bags that's water-proof. It has hold down straps and/or I tie it down with rope. I mainly use rope to tie stuff down but the cargo straps shown above by Raingler_Nets look a bit easier. I need to find a quick release shovel mount so I can grab it easily when needed.

I like to put the bulky, light-weight stuff, a shovel, any camp fuel or gas cans and firewood on top. I have a sun shower I carry in a low Styrofoam box I keep on top because the box sheds Styrofoam and it's bulky. The sun shower can leak too. Firewood sheds debris and it's bulky so it gets tied on top.

The recovery gear, a come along winch, the air compressor, water jugs and drinking water are heavy. I prefer to pack those things low and forward in the vehicle. I take the back seats out for camping when it's just the two of us. The heavy stuff gets packed in the rear seat area foot well directly behind the front seats.
