What cleaner to use?

I have an OEM hood protector on our '03 Sport V8, and the smoked plastic just looks really "weathered" and ghosted, much like headlight lens look over time.

Is there a cleaner that might bring it back to a better look? Or is this just the effects of weather, sun, cold, etc. and all you can do it replace it?

You need to use a plastic cleaner. One of the best I've used is PLASTX™ CLEAR PLASTIC CLEANER & POLISH from Meguiars:

Car Care Products: Car Waxes to Leather Cleaners, Meguiar's the Leader in Car and Surface Care since 1901

Use microfiber cloths to put on and take off and it will restore the shine, remove the hazing, and remove fine scratches.

Age, weather, UV rays, etc cause the problems.

Some of the headlight restoration kits work well but I haven't used them myself, and I don't plan to. Some are good, some are bad. IMO, if the item is too far gone for polishing, I will replace the unit.

All plastic polishes are abrasive. Use a polish with the lightest abrasiveness and go from there.
