What did everyone pay for their 4th gen?

Bought my 2005 SR5 V6 with 40K miles, had only one owner, mint conditions, still have factory tires, battery, etc. Paid $18K for it. Couldn't be happier!

I am closer to this deal for a Washington DC, NOVA, MD area transaction,...but back in July 2011 - 2006 SE V6, 49K, mint, original Dunlops, all Toyota dealer maintained, clean CarFax, 1 owner, garage kept,...$19.4K out the door. Thought I didn't get reamed too badly for a sound vehicle.

After looking for 2 months. I bought a 2004 limited 4x4 v6 with tow package, 119,xxx miles for $9800 from a private owner. I got it checked out at 2 shops and nothing wrong. Woohoo!! arty: Some minor scratches but no accidents and was not used to tow ever.

This thread is awesome. Seeing what others paid really helped me to know what I should be paying.

Even if the dreadful transfer case actuator starts leaking :crybaby:in the next 0-40,000 miles, I think I still made out pretty good.

Now which national park to visit first.

Hmmmm, just paid 9K for 04 with V8, 148K on clock with remote start, tow pkg, new tires and moonroof. Took it to a Toyota Specialist mechanic this week for timing belt service. Mechanic also has 04 T4R with the V6 and met him on this forum! He said I got a great deal at 9K and looked the truck completely over even checking fluids! He did timing belt, water pump, serp belt, thermostat, spark plugs, sway bar bushings, alignment, lubed driveshaft and steering shaft/u joints for a total bill of 1,096.04. So for just over ten grand invested, I have a 4Runner that has been just fully serviced for another 100K.

Did they study economic theory? They are wrong. Not sure where they made their numbers up. I love when people say "it isn't worth that!".

Actually. It is worth what someone pays. Your friends, no offense, are full of uneducated crap. If you see that people all over the country are paying within a similar range as you, that is a pretty clear indicator that you paid what is considered "fair" value.

A couple of dudes **** balling while drinking beer does not an economic expert make.

Sorry. Call them out and tell them to go back to ECON 101 before they used phrases like "worth". Worth isn't a set number. It is based on what the market will support..

Edit: More on this. I hate land Rovers. Hate them. I think they are the most over priced pieces of complete crap. I wouldn't trust one on a long drive, let alone in the woods. But, there you are, people shelling out 80k for what is, in my opinion, a high priced piece of ****. But, people line up to buy them. They are worth what people will pay for them. So.. 80k.

I have been looking on craigslist, autotrader, ebay, and every other used car site for weeks and thought I got a pretty good deal. I saw a few 04s and 03s with similar miles for 9500-10500 but preferred to have the 06 instead.

I'm hoping to hit the 250k mark with this truck. 300k would be even better.

In 2008 I got my 2005 SR5 V8 4x4 with 27K on it (one owner, Texas vehicle). Truck looked like new (still does); it is leather and has audio control on steering wheel; Price was $17.5 and I paid right around $19K with TTL.
I think it was a great deal.

V6's don't have a timing belt. They have a chain. It's highly unlikely they changed the chain at 100k. Might double check the service records.

You are correct. I mistyped. I meant chain. Why would they not have changed it out? I'll be honest, I'm not all that mechanically inclined but the mechanic who looked it over before my purchase said that it had been replaced.

There's no normal change interval for chains like there is for timing belts. My understanding is that they start to make noise when they're slipping and need to be serviced but it would be highly unusual for that to happen at 100k. It's more like 300k or higher.

The only thing I can think of is if your 4Runner had a head gasket leak and while they were fixing the head gasket they decided to go ahead and replace the chain. But I'd want to know all that ahead of my purchase. Again, I'd ask for a complete service history if possible. I guess it's possible the previous owner brought it to a shop and they talked him into service that wasn't needed. Just seems strange.

Picked up an '06 V8 SE Shadow Mica, Sun roof, DRL, backup mirror assists, 6 dic CD, very clean interior, clean service record at local Toyota, 1 owner, no smoke, 28,500 miles all for $19,500. Had been in a minor front end collision - all repairs perfessionally done with all Toyota parts, no airbag deployment. Have had three different Toyota dealers in Colorado check the vehicle and everything is in great working order!
