Paid $16,400 out the door including tax title and reg for a 2009 sport with 124k miles on it and spotless on the inside. Reasonable amount of rust for the average 12k miles per year. Front busing had to be replaced but I negotiated that before purchase. Tire tread is a pubic hair above red level. Since purchase rings to do the front right axle and the AC is leaking. Recently, I’ve been hearing a knock in reverse but it’s only happened twice in a month. Not sure if I got taken to the cleaners or not. One other thing is acceleration seems to be a little unresponsive at times, but I feel like that’s a normal thing from what I’m reading.

I just paid $12,750 including fees for an ‘07 SR5 with 96,000 miles. 1 owner and dealer maintained. Minimal rust besides the hole in the cargo area just above and behind the passenger wheel. A weekend with a buddy, cutting wheel, and welder solved that no problem. Good as new!

Ive been looking for 4th gen for a while now, preferable 06-09, v8, but a well maintained vehicle with no rust or major issues is obviously more important..

I got my 06 V6 4x4 Limited for $13000 in January 2020. It had 98k miles, very little rust, great condition inside (heated leather power driver/passenger seats, sunroof, JBL sound w/sub, etc are all perfect), a few scratches on the paint but the paint is in great condition (driftwood pearl), and they installed a new passenger side headlight and fixed a crack in the front bumper.
Turns out the 4Lo doesn't work, I didn't know how to test that at the dealer but did check 4Hi and that was fine so I assumed 4Lo was fine. My fault for not looking into it more. I've been loving it!

wow, seems like some pretty good deals of been found by many of you guys. Makes me curious what I should be thinking, Im looking into a 2009 trail edition with 215k on it, its in michigan its whole life. surface rust on frame but does not look to bad from what I saw, seam welds have surface rust but most the frame coating is still in tact. looks like it would not be hard to clean it up. body is full of light scratches from branches and bushes it looks like, I think they mostly will polish out with some work. driver seat has small rip/wear in left lower bolster, 1 stain on rear carpet I noticed and some rust bubbling under the paint on the rear hatch a couple inches below the glass. I know the radiator and rear diff seals where recently replaced and new Toyo tires, Gibson cat back and the rest is stock. drove smooth, felt good but Im sure its gonna need some money put in it at this milage. what is fair price to offer? asking is 11,750

$30,000. Bought 2005 Limited V8, in 2006, with 9,000 miles. Now just turned over 70,000 miles. Spent less than $1500 on repairs since then, but now we are going to replace/repair some things because of age, not mileage. We drove out of Paradise, CA 2 years ago through the fire, and it got us out no problem, we plan to keep it for at least another 10 years.
$10k in CO for 2006 V8 SR5, 147k miles, no serious frame rust, interior and exterior a little rough from prior owners dogs (some scratches on interior panels, paint) - needed a fair bit of maintenance - prior owner didn't really do anything but oil changes for all those miles.
I searched nationwide for a decent shape V8 4x4, both features were must haves.
Theses things are getting super expensive, especially here in southern California. (rust free cars). Most nice examples with 150,000 miles or less hovered around 18-29k (YES there is in one in San Diego for 29k asking)
I found a decent 2006 Limited in white (my #1 choice in color) V8 4x4 with ZERO frame rust (some light surface rust on the exhaust) with reasonably good interior and 144k miles for $13,900 in Bakersfield CA at a Toyota Dealership. (it did have a minor accident both appears to be relatively superficial and no frame damage)
I took a 2 hour uber the next morning to get at there right when they opened as I knew they would get a ton of interest on this car.
First week I did the timing belt, water pump, thermostat, belts and new radiator, transmission flush as well as brake flush.

A nice 3" Fox 2.0 IFP lift and Camburg UCA's on Fuel Warp bronze wheels wrapped in 285 KO2's.
DIY'd Fresh install of a completely new stereo (Pioneer Carplay unit, new JL speakers up front, JL amplified sub and an Alpine amp to run the front speakers. Most parts left over from another car audio project.
LED bulb replacements both interior and headlights
A PA system to yell at people
Weather Tech Floor Mats
The front windows are also now tinted to match the rears (not in the picture)
Deposit made on a Demello offroad flat top steel bumper.
I am about 21k all in with a full suspension lifte, new stereo and complete up to date maintenance. I am pretty happy with my setup and price as I know in southern california this car could sell for 24-26k.

Just purchased a 2007 Limited V8 with 127,000 miles for $15,000. Had been looking for awhile for a well cared for V8 since selling my 3rd gen. Local Toyota dealer had just taken it in on trade. Carfax showed two prior owners with lots of regular maintenance. However, the timing belt had not been done so dealer changed the belt and water pump as part of the deal. Also the tires were worn and since they were going to have to replace they agreed to let me pick the tires from options they had. Went with Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Total cost with tax and title fee”s was just over $17,000.
2004 Limited V8, 148k miles. New tires, shocks, struts. Interior in good shape. Not factory but good shape for the age. Body had a few dings but nothing major. Paid $7500, then had to replace timing belt. Did all fluids and plugs. This was in Feb 21. Great vehicle. We have a 2013 as well. I’m just a massive fan of 4runners. They’re the best vehicle you can own in my opinion.

It was a neighbors and when it started giving him trouble he parked it and bought a Highlander. It sat for a year and a half and then I bought it.
It had a broken timing chain, likely from lack of oil changes.
I replaced the timing chain set, a VVT sprocket, cleaned the engine of sludge, brakes around and tires. I have around $3k into it now and it runs awesome. With only 80,000 miles I was surprised at how bad it could be.
I will work on the body, he was old and hit things, but at the moment it is nice having a vehicle we don't have to worry about too much.

I'm similar to the post above. Paid $1500 from a neighbor. 2003 SR5 V8 with 200k. Needs:
transfer case (hole in it from driveshaft that broke)
front driveshaft (broke at the U-joint)
timing belt (it's just time)
new windshield (cracked all over)
rear door panels (tops of the panels all torn up)
hood struts (worn out)
headlamp assemblies (broken and yellow)
tires all around
I've done:
oil change
spark plugs
hood struts
new headlamp assemblies
new front and rear door panels (so they match)
wheelset from a 2005 with good tires
radio and speakers replacement
transfer case (partially installed)
Overall she's in pretty good shape, hope to get some more life out of her!

Just under 7k or so for the vehicle itself, and another 3k and counting in repairs and mods (radio being the only major cost item in the mod category). v8 sr5, 190k. Not the best deal anyone's ever gotten but it'll work. Plan on keeping it for a long time, I live close to work and don't drive a whole lot. Figure I can get 10-15 years and 100k+ more miles out of it as long as I keep replacing things as they break. Cheaper than buying a new vehicle and I can off road.

With the V8 the one thing you don't to wait until it breaks to fix is the timing belt, it should be replaced every 90,000 miles as regular preventative maintenance, also replace the water pump at the same time since it's buried in there with the timing belt, all the work to do the belt would have to be redone just to replace the water pump if it goes bad and the leaking coolant will deteriorate the new timing belt.
If the timing belt breaks because it wasn't done it will 99% of the time totally destroy the engine when valves hit the pistons!
At 190,000 miles it's past due to do the timing belt if it hasn't been done recently!!
