Tnx, Sir! Not as much as we'd like though. Lots in the deserts (Anza-Borrego is great for So Cal) but it would be nice to have more places to camp near the beaches.

There is a lot of play in the hood release handle in the cab and the hood does not pop up when it is pulled....

You could be right RAD. Some internet searching seems to indicate that it could have something to do with a worn or loose cable. As long as I can still open and close the hood, I'm good for now. It is annoying though and I do plan to look into it. I'll be glad when I can start my own progress thread and ask question!

I installed new Flamethrower injectors. 4-hole design is great. I had a miss at idle sometimes and hesitation. Throttle response is fantastic and the truck accelerates smoothly.

FINALLY, the stars aligned and I found the time to get an NC license plate for my 4Runner. Now I can start driving it around instead of looking at it parked in the yard! Yahoo!!! :biggrin1:

Lets see, what did to my 93 today.... Oh ya, bought a set of 17 inch tires and had them mounted on a set of 2017 Toyota rims, look great ( imo ). I am thinking about taking the running boards off, I notice that when I get out my pants rub on the running board and transfer mud to me, not good. Thinking they are going to go.

I played hookey from work today and headed to Turkey Bay with my hopefully maybe someday future son in law. Got a late start, but managed a couple hours on the trails before we started losing daylight. Being a Monday, we only saw 3 other vehicles the whole time we were there. We didn't get into anything too hairy, being a solo run, but the 4Runner did great. We climbed a couple hills and enjoyed the engine braking on the way down. Even got to try the clutch start cancel feature out, and was very pleased. Wish I'd have got a few more pics, but I hope to get up there again before too long.

got the '87 back ready for the road. it has been parked since just after columbus day weekend, for a leaking rear axle. the driver's side bearing leaked and saturated the brake shoes, etc.

ordered a bearing/seal kit from low-range offroad, and got a deal on the improved marlin crawler seal (also from l-r o). finally pulled the axle last week, and took it to a friend who has a shop press. he fabbed up a fixture to remove the collar/bearing from the backing plate/shaft.

put the new bearing/seals in on friday, and finished installing the new shoes (i had a single pair of new shoes left over from a few years ago). then, spent saturday and sunday undercoating the entire underside, frame, and inside body panels with fluid film. should be good to go tomorrow - we just got 3 inches of snow yesterday, and another 7" is forecast for tuesday.

sorry about no pics - it was messy/greasy, and i was strapped for time on friday when reinstalling the axleshaft/brakes.

Removed the left front wheel and breaks, it was hung up to the point you could not turn the wheel by hand, everything was rust, got it apart and the pistons would not come out even with pressure applied, I had one come loose and there was water behind the piston and it was rusted in. Ordered new one, so toy will be down until it gets here. the right one is free and turns easily.....

using chains during the week to get to a job site. no chance of getting there without chains. fwiw, tires are cooper m/s, which are pretty good in the snow and ice. they are now on their fifth winter, with plenty of tread remaining. might get a sixth winter out of them, which is plenty good.

Because I’m saying good bye to my Tundra, I’ve had to pick up a hitch mount dirt bike carrier. Got to get to the trails some kinda way. Also scored a Yakima LoadWarrior roof basket. Slowly making the 4Runner more user friendly. I think the next project is making a sleeping platform inside but elevated for added storage underneath... I’ve seen this done on FJ’s but not a 2nd gen t4r.

Nice looking rig. Looking forward to a platform build, as I am looking to do the same thing with mine come summer. Make sure you post it up in the classics section for the rest of us! Also maybe a picture with a bike on that carrier, would be interesting to the see the weight load on it.

I put mine into a ditch.

Yeah, I was being stupid and messing around with a 3rd gen buddy and his new runner and slid into the ditch. Attempting to get it out made it worse. I had to get it pulled out the next morning.

My water was mostly oil when we drained it, but thankfully it didn't run that way. About 2 gallons of drain, fill, repeat, we attempted to fire it up. It wanted to, so badly, but wouldn't fire. The plugs were coated with water/garbage. Fearing the worst, my buddy flat towed me home where we took off the intake and checked everything. Everything appeared fine/dry. Huh. On a whim I cracked open the fuel line on the cold start injector. Pressurized and gas came out when I jumped the relay. WTF! The gas doesn't smell like gas.

It appeared that someone poured water in my gas tank. I had to drain the whole thing and it was mostly water. New filter, new gas, water remover. Starts up and runs fine.

I have been having problems with the exhaust system. I had replaced the stock system with a set of headers, of course they came in a box about 3 feet long so that meant that the system was in short pieces and had to be clamped together . No matter how much I tried I had exhaust leaks. I bought some cement that is for mufflers and pipes and sealed all the clamp areas. So far it seems to have worked as the noise is greatly reduced. I don't know how long it will work for but its working for now. I do know that I need a new muffler as it still has the original and its blown out. The headers are stainless steel so welding is a out of the question , at least for me. I live in Idaho, so its about 150 miles to the closest muffler shop. Right now I have 180 miles on the new motor and its running great. It is going to be my new hunting rig once I have confidence in it, don't want to get stranded out in the back country, its a long walk home.....

I could spend time making her look pretty and rugged, OR I can put her to work so I can go to pretty and rugged places. I opted for the latter...

The Domelands in Anza-Borrego Desert. Lots of dry waterfalls, scrambling, fossilized marine life...

Gotta re-hydrate after a good loop hike...
