What did you drive before your 4Runner

Since October 1996 I've had a Toyota 4WD in my driveway, except for approx. 4 months total during that time.
1994 Toyota XCab V6 4WD
1995 FZJ80 triple-locked
2004 Standard Cab Tacoma 4-cyl 4WD
2007 GX470
1971 FJ40
...and now my 2004 V8 4Runner.

During that time, also had (in no particular order):
2012 VW Golf Tdi DSG. Wow what a car! but too bad about Dieselgate.
1995 Subaru Outback
1996 Land Rover Discovery: If there's a bigger POS on the planet, I'd like to see it.

And prior to 1996:
2X Ford Ranger XCab, 4-cyl 5-spd and V6 AT.
1982 V6 Camaro.
1980 Pontiac Bonneville.
1976 Chevy Caprice.
1979 Ford Ltd.
1973 Chevy Malibu.

Typing this out, I realize - aside from the Taco and Golf - I've always had vehicles that were made in past decades lol.

2011 Volkswagen GTI 6-speed. Bought it new and it was mostly a really great, reliable, and fun little car. Started having some problems right around 100k miles that were covered by quality programs and another covered by the extend warranty. Decided to sell it around 115k miles and convince my wife an older 4Runner with more miles would be far more reliable than the VW.

I had a 2020 Tacoma xtra-cab. I paid it off in 2 years. Now I drive a 2007 runner because the truck was not workable having 2 kids. I miss it!!

I drove an 89 volvo 240 until I bought my 2003 SR5. It was a good reliable car.

I had an '01 Golf 2.0 in Navy. It was a great car, but it was getting expensive to fix and I was in University. I miss it now, though, it was zippy, small, and a joy to drive. I really wish I had the TDI version but I couldn't find one at the time.

2006 Lexus ISF.

Owned it five years and sold it two years ago with 82k miles on it. Turned around and bought a 2006 4Runner with 82k miles on it.

My 4Runner still has less than 90k on it.

Sold both at some point then bought:
1986 Toyota Pickup 4x4 & 2000 GS300 & 1999 Miata
Was driving the GS and got rear ended, totaled the car. To scale down the used car lot in my yard, I sold the 1986 Pickup and bought a 2006 Tacoma Prerunner AC TRD OR.
Sold the Prerunner and bought a 2013 Tacoma AC TRD OR. Had it for about 3 years and just recently sold it and bought a 2003 4Runner V8 Sport 4WD. I have since acquired a 2000 Chevy Silverado that belonged to my step father who just recently passed away.
So now:
1999 Miata & 2000 Silverado & 2003 4Runner

Prior to getting the T4R, my daily driver was a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with the 4.0 L6. I loved it. Bought it at 112k and sold it 12 years later at 250k.

My 07 SR5 is definitely a step up in just about every way (though I did like the solid front axle of the Jeep), most importantly in reliability. By this age and mileage, the Jeep had already gone through a transmission and had many other issues (and leaked oil like a sieve). The 4Runner still runs and looks nearly brand new inside and out.

Hey, there was a post in Classic T4R's about headlights, and somehow we got on the subject of what we drove before our 4Runners. So I was just wondering what everyones first car was or what you drove before their 4Runner or if it your Runner was your first. By the way I drove an 1986 VW Jetta GL, 5 speed, fast little car.

I too had an 86 jetta 5 speed!

92 Camry Xle - lasted till around 340k miles till gave it to my brother in philly

94 Camry Le - had 180k on in got in accident.

2001 Pathfinder- had 170k totaled in accident

2005 4Runner Sr5 - 240k still have

2014 4 runner Limited - 120k
