RAV4 to 4runner

06 RAV4. Needed more cylinders so I switched it out for an 06 4runner sport. Just changed AC bulbs and added a new touchscreen head unit.

I drove a 2006 Lexus GS300. After a few too many bangs on the underside going on "easy" roads to go hiking or camping, At the end of 2015 I switched out to a 2016 4Runner Limited AWD. I got used to the keyless entry and the heated and cooled seats on the Lexus so I went with the Limited. Haven't really missed the Lexus. The only thing I really don't like about the limited is the front bumper cover. I wish it was like the other trims and not so low and unmodifiable. I'd love to do a bumper swap but can't justify the cost of it.

Hey, there was a post in Classic T4R's about headlights, and somehow we got on the subject of what we drove before our 4Runners. So I was just wondering what everyones first car was or what you drove before their 4Runner or if it your Runner was your first. By the way I drove an 1986 VW Jetta GL, 5 speed, fast little car.

I used to have a BMW X5 3.5i turbo. I sold it when it started having problems, and bought a little Subaru for daily use.

But so that I would still be able to tow stuff I also found, two weeks ago, a 2003 4Runner V8 4WD with 109k miles. Seemed like a good deal and the Carfax was clean. It ran great on the 8-hour drive home. Averaged 19.72 miles per gallon on regular gas, driving about 70-75mph over mostly flat highway (a couple of traffic jams but nothing too major).

The car runs well but was direly in need of fluid and filter changes so I did that stuff. Fortunately my tranny has a dipstick so I did a drain and fill with OEM type IV fluid. I changed the spark plugs. I have found a mechanic to replace the timing belt/water pump/pulleys/seals etc. as well as the cracked RHS exhaust manifold (#2 cyl). The brake calipers seem kinda grabby too so I will need to investigate that as well.

My 4th Gen is my second car. First was a 07 corolla 5 speed. Sadly got totalled due to some sad conditions. Very fun little car. Although being lifted is fun and all, I will admit I miss being lowered on coilovers.

I could come up with a list here but will just say that through the years I have owned a few Explorers, built at least three of them to be trail capable and that at this time I'm driving a 2013 F-150 - decided to buy a 4Runner cause I needed something dependable - something I can take off the black pavement, something I can see the world out of. Nothing these days is capable of that anymore - more plastic, more electronic than ever.

I didn't have a car for a year before my 4runner since I worked at home. But prior to that, I had an old Infiniti QX4. It was nothing compared to the V8 Sport 4Runner!
