I took my truck into a shop that deals with lifted trucks and they pointed out my shocks need replacing. I told them I didn't want anything fancy, so they quoted me for Monroe quick struts in the front and some $50 shocks in the back. I was told I would regret going going with Monroe and cheap shocks in the back, so I have been wondering what to buy. My truck has always rode stiff, so if possible I want a smoother ride. Most of my driving is on pavement - I maybe go off-road 3x a year. Being that I have 33'' tires I need something that will work with them. When I bought this truck it was already lifted, so I do not know much about the subject. I think it is lifted with spacers.
When I went to this shop one thing I noticed is they quoted me for 2'' shocks in the rear. Why would they be 2''? For the truck to sit level is the rear raised less? Or is he taking into account the spacers that are already lifting it? Am I correct in assuming I need 3''of lift to clear 33s?
Budget is $500 for front/rear shocks and new springs.
