I talked to my dad about letting me sell my current T4R for a newer one...here's my plan, see what youn think.

Mine is a 1998 Limited in Anthracite Metallic. It has been taken care of extremely well. 115600 miles.

1. $10,200.

I found a Jet Black 1999 SR5 with 117,000 for $10,350. Seems to have been taken care of nicely.

I really want a 1999 because the body style is a bit different, the wheels look better (IMO), and the larger coils allow 11" of ground clearence. Mine has 9.5 so it would be, in a since, getting the lift I want for less. Plus i really want Black. Not my brownish.

Finally, IS IT A GOOD DEAL? What do you think?

Is the '99 a Highlander model with the scoop;I'm figuring it is since you mentioned the wheels and they are probably the '99 limited wheels which,yes they are the best OEM 4Runner wheels period IMO of course.
Also remember not all '99s had the taller coils but I'm pretty sure all Highlander models did.
Does it have the rear diff lock?

If it's in comparable shape to your '98 then go for it since you get a wealth of upgrades with the '99 year including real cupholders.

Mine has almost 120k and besides normal maintenance I have only had to replace the rear axle seals at 100k which is kinda common so check those seals which you can tell by frsh fluid on the back of the brake assembly. If they are leaking then you'll also need to replace the rear shoes too.

It does have a hood scoop, and it is the limited wheels. Not sure about the locker, and the fender flares are the smaller plastic version. Not the bigger ones on the limited.

Yup,snag it as it it's the semi-rare Highlander and odds are it'll have the locker but not guaranteed.
I actually prefer the smaller flares for off roading since they handle brushes with branches much better than painted,wider flares.

MAN! He sold it like 2 days ago. It was on AutoTrader. But if it has a hoodscoop and the limited wheels is it always a highlander?

correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe the 98 is the last year the limited came with part time 4x4 and diff lock.
by the way, 1" is the width of your thumb, not much. and 1" taller coils do not improve your rear diff clearance. only larger tires will do that. And the only way to fit larger than 265/75R16 is to lift it.

'00 was the last year for the diff lock and Limiteds of that year did have it as an option. My mom has a '99 Limited with the diff lock and the only time it ever gets used is when I engage it and drive 50 feet to make sure it still works once a year.
