take a trip to canal street in Ny, and you can get that exact watch for 20 bucks. I mean an exact replica. My boy got one and has had it for like 2 years and it still runs perfect.

Submariner is not that costly. You can get one at most Rolex stores for MSRP. There is no way that any new stainless steel Sub will cost more than $4-5,000.
The Submariner is one of the classic Rolex. A lot of history. If i were you (and have connections), then i would get the Sea Dweller. The SD is slightly thicker (stronger) and has a deeper water rating.
You need to try this watch on your wrist to see if it fits. Rolex watches are undergoing slow modernization. Unfortunately, the Sub and SD are still of the old stuff (hollow center links, open end links, hole at the lugs).
Other Rolex to consider: Rolex Yacht-Master (steel/platinum combo), Turn-o-graph (new model with new features), or just the regular (but classy) oyster. I have the Yacht-Master and love it...classy (not too much bling-bling) and sporty-looking.

Wouldn't the presidential be more expensive.
And as for me i like a real heavy watch. Breightling is my fav watch that i have. The thing weighs a ton and is nice and bling bling. Although i only wear it for special occasions it is the only one that i want to wear.
Although a real nice watch is made my Revue Thommen. I got one for college graduation that i managed to lose. But i am going to get another one.

i own a Sub and love it. i paid cash for mine and got a 10% discount. it was a from a legit jeweler in Redbank, NJ too.
the thing about Rolex and most high-end watch makers for that matter, is that they increase their prices about 3% every 6 months or so. i think i paid little less than $4k for mine after tax. now they're getting more and more expensive.
the stainless steel version should be about $4k. the SS/ gold combo i think is about $6-$7k and the solid gold version is about $18k.
like Thai said, check out the Yachtmaster. it looks real awesome, however, i couldn't stomach the thought of shelling out an additional $3k more just for a platinum bezel and face (bracelet and case are ss) also, the clasp on it is kinda wimpy compared to the Sub. the Sea Dweller is indeed an awesome watch too. also, they have a 50th anniversary edition of the Sub that has a green bezel and possibly a green face with larger markers. thing is, it's limited and cost about $6k
finally, the reason why daytona's are so expensive is because the ss version was made in small supplies. the retailers were able to mark up those big time and people bought them. i think you're able to buy a ss/ gold version for LESS than a ss version. now i think they have a white gold version. god only knows what that will cost. but i think a ss version goes for about 5 figures or more and are very rare.

this watch msrp is around $4,500 . I can get it for $3,575 out the door.
That's a good deal coming from a legit store. Go for it.

Bought my subby in 1985 for about $1,200 new from a legit dealer in La Jolla, Ca. (Ben Bridges Jewelers in Univeristy Town Center.) Except for having it serviced in 1997, it has been just wonderfully accurate, good looking, and one of the few classics of all time. Rolex Subs came out in October 1954, and the 50th annivesary edition came out in Octoboer 2004 with a green bezel. Along with the usual Rolex quality, it is about the most copied watch next to the President.
Had the chance to get a Sea Dweller, but it is just a tad too thick and lacks the magnifier for teh date and my eyes need all the help it can get. The deeper water pressure is moot since I am not a Comex diver spending time in tri-mix depths. It just has to look good in a hot tub with a couple of busty wimmin with their cups runneth over.....practicing my own submarine racing.....
Like Thai said, most watch snobs consider Rolex to be too common---like Mercedes Benzes.....However, I bought my watch to be rugged, utterly dependable, classic looking for decades, and wearable in a pinstriped suit or a wet suit. The Subby is that one watch. For 007/Bond fans, it has also appeared in more 007 movies than any other watch, Omega being a Johnny come lately in getting placed in Bond movies.
Omega has come back from being mass marketed into the depths next to Bulova nad Seiko in the 1980s. ONce a hihg flying high end/mass production line, it dropped then came back up. The Omega Sea MAster Professional Chorno is real nice. The regular Seamaster was prominenelty placed in at least two Bond movies.
Breitling is very nice. I like the Brietling Avenge Chrono but the others are too busy looking.
I'll get my all gold Daytona after hitting the lottery. Can't stand those two tones.....

After I retired in 98 I sold my Rolex Submariner Stainless and gold, figured I didn't need a $6000 watch to putter around the house and bought a Stainless Seiko divers watch, see attached they are good for 20+ years of use. Not bad for a $300 watch

T3- Arnold had taht beautiful all black with black strap on the movie End of Days, I believe.....just gorgeous. Tried it on with gold bezel on black face and black strap at Mayor's Jewelers....AHHHHH!!!!!!! Just what I need when I can afford that 88 foot Pershing power cruiser with a couple of bimbos on the back deck......
My bank account said OOOOWWWWWW!!!!!!!
