What Does Your Dealership Charge for A Transmission Fluid Flush?

Hi guys,

I'm finally going to do the transmission fluid on the 2006 4Runner.

I was going to do a few drain and fills but also considering just having the dealer do the complete flush.

I'm wondering what guys are paying in your part of the country for a complete flush? What's this going to set me back, I'm in the SF bay area.

I would look on your dealerships service special sections or at least all the ones near you. Usually they can price match competitors service rates.

Most importantly grill the tech who is going to work on your car. Ask them on how they are going to set your transmission level after the flush. if they say they are going to measure at operating temperature run. if they have the toyota sealed transmission device then chances they know what they are doing.

I inquired at a local dealership they said operating temperature. well that is not what the manual says and walked away.
 
I think i paid 250 for mine at the dealership for a full fluid exchange

Could you be more specific on this? What year is your truck?

I guess I need to be sure that the dealership is using WS ATF and that it is a full flush.


Just for my reference, are "drain n fills" typically done on flat ground with the trans at operating temp? Draining in this manner will typically get how much fluid out?

According to my math, three drain n fills will get about 50% new fluid in circulation through the system.
 
You should also ask what method they will use to flush it. My local dealer bought some specific equipment to use on transmission flushes, but actually got rid of it because of potential fluid contamination (running regular ATF through it for one car, then running WS fluid through it for another).
Also - I used 4.0 quarts per drain for my calculation (out of an assumed 12 total quarts), and my math says you'd have roughly 70% new fluid after three drain / fill cycles.

Funny you bring this up. I was just talking to my father in law about this. He had the transmission fluid flushed on his FJ at 75K miles and said it cost him $280 at whatever dealership he went to.

If you happen to find a good one in the Bay Area, I would love a recommendation.

Here at Oakland one Toyota expect to pay 381. That's what it costed me last year.
Every where else expect to pay 400. Especially in sf area. It'll cost more.

thats nuts. find an independent shop. ask them to measure what came out and put that much going in should be no more than 50 bucks. my previous mechanic did it for free. (well as part of a few major service items)

edit wait drain and fill price or full flush?

Same here but I got my oil for around $70 shipped to my door for OEM Toyota.

Its soo easy to just do it yourself... cost me under $75 total with a new crush washer.

I considered the dealer route as well... I think it was around $225 to $250 range. I guess its not bad if you are a busy person or just don't really feel like getting under the truck. Ive just been in the mood to wrench on my own stuff lately.

For the price of juice these days... I just drain and fill often. Same for coolant.

Sorry... I forgot there are two different transmissions.

I have a 2004 that has a dip stick (not sealed) and uses Type T-IV and not WS.

flush. drain and fill was like 200 i think when i did it at hayward toyota, that did not solve the little shake i had going slow from 30 to 40, so i just flush it about couple years later.
