What fuel do you run?

I wold like to ask all you 4R owners what type of fuel you run in your truck.

Can you please post what year and model you have as well.

I run Shell 89 most of the time. I was doing 92 for a while, but there is no noticeable performance difference (I think because our timing is not optomized for higher octanes)

The grades around me go 87, 91 and 93.

Sunoco sells a 94 or 95 octane but the price is a huge jump over 93.

your 05 V8 will run fine on 87, most if not all GX470 guys with 05 VVTi run regular

alternate 87 and 91 in spring and summer and fall

04 SE 4WD , I was running 93 for several month when i first got it and was broke one day and fill it up with 87 and did not notice any different in performance but my mpg did went up 1 to 2 mpg! so i been running 87 ever since

Read your manual for your Octane to use.

Using 93 is a waste of money when your N/A.

But to each his own.

Think about how much money you'll save by using 87 octane rather than 91+? -not much-. So..why not use something better and which also provides a "peace of mind" feeling as well.

I have not tried lower grades yet. But I will.

87 is the minimum required? But not all 87 is the same. My brother's Tundra has knocked on Costco's 87.

Not all Costco gas is the same either. They all use different vendors. The one buy my house uses Unocal 76. No problems knocking yet. I have used it for many years, I no problems in my 2002 tacoma V6.

I know it says more power/fuel economy at 91 in the book. I did a test early on. I ran 5 consecutive tanks of 87 and 5 consecutive tanks of 91 driving the same area/route over all 10. I did get slightly better gas mileage with the 91. I projected the cost for each over 20,000 miles and even with the decreased mpg of the 87, it was still cheaper to run 87 or time.

This test was by measuring mpg manually and did not include any hauling or towing.

If I was going to tow or go a long way with a load, I'd burn 91 for the duration of that need.

Even local brand name stations may not even sell their own brand.

My point is 87 may not be 87. No reason a Tundra should knock on 87.

Just have to find a local station & octane that works for you.
