I think you might be referring to an inclinometer, which would measure the angle (incline) at which the vehicle is sitting. It would tell you if you're on a 5 degree hill, 10 degree hill, etc. Depending on the design of the meter, it will read out side-to-side angle, front-to-back angle. or both.
