I've searched and searched, and found nothing but jokes about it. I really want to know, what the heck is this for? Is the console designer just averse to having any unadorned space? Is it for a tiny loaf of bread? what??!!

The raised semicircular ends just make me think it has a specific purpose. Maybe those are just there to add strength to the part.

My old iPhone 4 with the bumper case fit perfect across there. So, it was super useful in my 2010 4Runner. Not so much on my 2016.

My GoPro batteries fit perfectly. Almost like the space was meant for them.
