If it makes any difference it's a 4x4, V6, manual 5-speed.4:10 no locker
4:30 if you have the E locker
Are's were definetley in the same factory at the same time, mine was 5/97 too

I'm not locked so I guess I have 4:10 but I'll try Brian2suns method in a few weeks when I visit my folks. I think I read somewhere that the 4:10s are ok with 285s.... thats my concern.
Hey Brian, what was it like re-gearing? Did you do it yourself? Expensive?

You could be right on the 3.90s but i think that was an 01 02 thing, i only agree cause of how much LINY4runner says he lost in power when he went up to 33s.John, Didn't some of the V6 4x4 come with 3.90s, I know the 4 bangers didn't come with 3.90s (they wouldn't have been able to hardly move!)? I'm pretty sure there are some out there. Also all the lockers came with 4.30s for 4runners, but I believe some came open with 4.30s too (that's what the online chart told me mine was).
As i said before, V6 4x4 has 2 options, 4.10, and 4.30. if he has an E locker he has 4:30, if he doesnt than he has 4.10.
4.56 is for 4x4 4 banger 5 speeds.

wrong. 3.90's were all years. my parts rig has them.
and 4 cylinders were most commonly 4.10's. only 4 cylinders with 31's from the factory had 4.56's
Are you saying that I have 3:90s? I certainly don't want to throw 285s on and get 12 mpg. :redbrick:
