I need tires and had decided on something other than revos. Would they be a bad decsion for a 2WD T4R? Are they quiet? do they last well? I didn't even consider them in my initial search primarily because of price. I now have an opportunity to pick up a very slightly used set with full tread depth. I appreceiate your advice?

I have used the Revo for almost 6 years on and off. My main reason originally was that I had had good luck with Bridgestone Tires and the Revo has a more aggressive tread pattern than the standard dueler.
I do a lot of off road driving, not real rock climbing, but do take on considerably aggressive roads, which can get muddy and off camber at times. I was looking for a tire that would give me some ability to throw out mud but not take on a full mudder. I also wanted a tire with a stronger than average side wall to help protect against punctures.
The Revo's I used on my Landcruiser were great tires, I still have them on the truck and they have about 1/4 of the original tread left. Never had a puncture and they have worn very well.
Before I purchased my 4R. I had a Honda Pilot and got a set of Revo's for it also. The Pilot had a strange tire size, I can't remember it now. However I also drove many of the same roads (not all of of them) in the Pilot that I had driven in my Cruiser. I had 3 punctures and one totally ruined tire in the space of 2 years. Of the 3 punctures, 1 required a new tire, so I ended up having 2 tires replaced in 2 years. I pretty much lost my faith in the Revo, not sure if I just got a bad set or what. After I replaced the 2nd tire I did drive over Cinnamon and Engineer pass in the Pilot and the tires did fine, however that was when I decided to buy a 4R.
Overall they are a great looking tire, however on my Pilot's set, I easily paid for my road hazard coverage.
I didn't really notice a big increase in tire noise and they ride very well. I used them several times in snow and felt that they did good there too.
They would be a great tire for your 4R.

If u can pick up a used set thats almost new cheap , got for it .

Pros: fair price , nice ride , great in rain , I get great gas milage with mine . (P265/70/17)
Cons: wear a little quick (but not horribly) , snow (ok but mariginal) , mud ( not good but its an AT tire not a mud tire)
I have 38k on mine , would I buy them again ?? Probably not but I'll see whats out for the price . I bought these because I got $50 off per tire and bought 5 tires (1 for the spare since I upsized ) so the deal was as good as I could get. I also heard a lot of raves about them here. Depends on what your needs are and we could give you more info.

The Revo's are a very sought after tire apparently, and are very popular here. They handle very very well in the wet weather as well as in the dry weather too. I have maybe 100 miles on my tires and have already taken them offroad and they did great. Didn't even have to use 4WD where I normally would have had to with my old Cross Terrains.
They also have a very unique tread I think, which makes them stand out. They are aesthetically pleasing if you ask me, and perform very well. They look cool from the side as well. They are quiet, have good grip, decently priced (although mine were a Christmas present
, I still had to do some searching for them).

I did have the Cross Terrains on the runner before and the Revo are way better. Hardly any noise compaired to the Cross Terrains. If the price is good, go for it! :driving:

I can't speak about snow traction or the 4Runner specifically but I had them on my Nissan Titan and loved them. As far as wear goes they seem to do very well (I put 25k then sold the truck). They were quiet, awesome in the rain and had good traction off-road (mild off-road). I will consider them when my 4Runner needs tires. Good luck :cheers:

Revos are good all around tires, but I think they've been hyped up so much that people have expectations that are too high.
In my opinion, they are decent tires, but I think there are better choices out there.

In addition to the comments above, which are my feelings as well, is the special tread compound they call "UNI-T AQII Technology".
Wet weather performance is one of the primary factors for me getting the Revos. I have them on both my 4R's and the only other tire I would like to try would be the Nokian Vattivas.
I love the looks of some of the agressive M/T's out there, but cannot justify the increase in noise, faster wear, less snow/rain traction that is typically foud in most M/T's as compared to A/T's and Revos specifically. I am sure they are better off road, but I dont go off road anywhere enough to justify them. I though about getting a set of M/T's and having them siped but still didnt think it was a good idea for my useage.

Kind of what happened to me , I was expecting a real kick butt tire in the snow storms and snow wheeling , that I must say has been my biggest disappointment.
Ride , rain/wet , gas milage and balancing out have been great .
As far as the Uni-T stuff , I have never noticed a difference over any other tire I've had . I have 38k on them and they are about as less aggressive AT tire as I feel comfortable with. There are a lot of others out there and everyone of them ( including Revos ! ) all have pros and cons to each . Its not a horrible tire ( by no means )depending on your need .

Something tells me that this tread compound, which seems relatively soft and kind of "gel" like to the touch, is the reason why they seem to perform poorly in the snow. Maybe because of the cold weather do people rate them as performing not up to expectations in the snow as they do in most other areas?

Most comments relating to snow over on Tire Rack about the Revo are very positive. Keep in mind that driving skill has something to do with perception.

I considered Revos but ended up with Long Trail T/A's (Bridgestone). I was too cheap to pony up for the Revos, but I really like my new skins. They are quiet and have performed well for me on the roads up here. Just waiting for the next big snow... Anyway, something for you all to consider as a tire. I paid $123/corner for mine (Sam's club).

I would even say that the REVOs has slightly more void space than Nittos, which is better for off-roading. I would not put Nittos in the same class as BFG AT KO in off-roading either.
