What is the "Auxiliary Holder" for???

That littly compartment above the rear view mirror on Gen 3s. Manual calls it an auxiliary holder.

No garage opener i ever saw would fit in there. I am talking about on a 1997. Looks like all that could fit in there are a few business cards.

My 2000 can fit glasses.

A buddy of mine has a 98 so I know exactly what you mean. It's only about the size to hold business cards or something small like that. I doubt sunglasses will fit in there.

We kept sunglasses in that on our '99 when we had it.

It is supposed to double as a garage door opener too. You can tell by the way you can still push it up when its closed. I just never tried to put our remote in there.

The 96-98's had this small little box that doesn't seem big enough to fit sunglasses. Toyota changed it in 99 to a bigger sunglass holder.

I think that this is the best answer and is about the only thing that will actually fit in there. Or if a woman owns the 4Runner she could put an emergency tampon in there.
